The desk also operates The Washington Post News Service, which delivers Post content to news organizations worldwide, and maintains The Washington Post's Style Manual.

This position carries responsibility for ensuring that everything The Post publishes meets its high standards for accuracy, fairness and clarity of expression. The ideal candidate will have a track record of producing daily and enterprise journalism while staying cool under pressure.

Applicants for this job should have excellent news judgment and experience running a copy desk in a large newsroom. They should have the ability to pivot quickly between breaking news and projects while effectively managing a large team that will include editors in D.C., London, Seoul and elsewhere. A track record of impeccable work and a demonstrated ability to evolve existing workflows for new platforms are necessary for success in this role. This editor should have experience evaluating and updating style entries to respond to news.

A willingness to experiment and enthusiasm about the future will be necessary for success. The deputy chief will be responsible for executing strategy on an operational level and must have exceptional communication skills and the ability to juggle multiple tasks. In addition, this role requires strong management and organizational skills that will enable the effective scheduling of a team that is in operation 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. A proven ability to work across departments to solve problems on the fly is a key to success in this role.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom. Once we resume normal operations, it will not be eligible for remote work.
