General Summary/Responsibilities:

The Nurse in Charge (NIC) is a designated clinical leader for a patient care area who works under the supervision �of and in collaboration with the Department Director to plan and coordinate care at the service/department level.� ��This position is responsible and accountable for:
  • Cost effective decision-making regarding operations including utilization and application of resources. (i.e., human resources, patient care environment, supplies, etc.) �
  • Directing and supervising professional and non-professional staff
  • Determining staff assignment and scheduling
  • Assuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Participating in the development of patient care standards and delivery of care processes.���
  • Facilitating and participating in staff development, including orientation and training as well as performance evaluation and management including verbal coaching and counseling.�
  • Maintaining a clinical environment that demonstrates service excellence.��
  • Functioning as a professional role model and resource person.�

The authority to exercise these responsibilities often requires the use of independent judgement.�� The NIC supports the Mission of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Health.

What you will need:

Required:

Current licensure by the Maryland State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.

BLS certified; additional Life Support training as applicable to unit requirements.

Department-specific specialty certification required within six months of start of position.


Preferred:

Baccalaureate and/or Master's degree in nursing required.� Master's degree preferred.�

Minimum of 3 years of specialty specific experience in an acute care setting.
