This position is located in the Department of Program Services (DPS), Judiciary Data and Analysis Office (JDAO), Data Production and Analysis Division (DPAD), Research and Analysis Branch (RAB).

Responsibilities

The incumbent will apply statistical or data science methodologies to conduct analytical research and in turn prepare reports to defend the data. The incumbent will use independent judgement and initiative in applying industry-accepted techniques in the formulation of short and long-range forecasts while working in a collaborative environment.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Applying statistical or data science methodologies to conduct advanced analytical research using existing judiciary data; employing data visualization practices (and developing interactive dashboards) when conducting the analyses; and constructing and defending publishable reports on the research.
  • Applying industry-accepted time series techniques in the formulation of short-range and long-range forecasts; creating documents and forums to present the forecasts to business users; and responding to questions from business users concerning the forecasts.
  • Responding to complex data inquiries from the judiciary, the executive and legislative branches, academia, and the general public; preparing presentation materials and research analyses in response to the complex data inquiries; and conveying complex research ideas in a manner that a general audience can understand.
  • Producing deliverables under tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
  • Collaborating in a team environment and exercising independent judgment and initiative.

  • If appointed to a temporary position, management may have the discretion of converting the position to permanent depending upon funding and staffing allocation.


  • Qualifications

    Applicants must have demonstrated experience as listed below. This requirement is according to the AO Classification, Compensation, and Recruitment Systems which include interpretive guidance and reference to the OPM Operating Manual for Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions.

    Specialized Experience : Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of this position. Specialized experience is demonstrated experience applying statistical or data science methodologies to conduct analytical research, applying industry-accepted time series techniques to formulate long and short-range forecasts, producing appropriate presentation material and research analysis to inform the intended audience, using statistical programming languages (such as R, STATA, SPSS, SAS, or Python), and using Business Objects and Structured Query Language (SQL) to access data.

    Education

    Basic Requirement: The basic requirement can be met in one of three ways.
  • Degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position; or
  • A combination of education and experience that has provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field; or
  • Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
