Summary

The incumbent will be responsible for assisting the Joint Wargaming and Experimentation Division (JWED) Chief, other Branch Chiefs, and the lead planner in directing and ensuring a plausible plan, scenario, red and white cell are incorporated into joint wargames and the planning, leading and/or supporting joint wargaming and experimentation events done by JWED provide a rigorous environment to measure and assess joint war fighting concepts and their ways and means.

Responsibilities

As a SCENARIO AND EXPERIMENTATION ANALYST at the GS-0301-12/13 some of your typical work assignments may include:
  • Assist the Joint Wargaming and Experimentation Division (JWED) Chief, other Branch Chiefs, and the lead planner in directing and ensuring a plausible plan, scenario, red cell and white cell are incorporated into joint wargames.
  • Assist the Joint Wargaming and Experimentation Division (JWED) Chief, other Branch Chiefs, and the lead planner in the planning, leading and/or supporting joint wargaming and experimentation events done by JWED in order to provide a rigorous environment to measure and assess joint war fighting concepts and their ways and means.
  • Work closely with Joint Concept authors and those responsible for Concept of Operations (CONOPS) development in order to research and develop a global and operationally challenging scenario, and help to design an event (wargame of experiment) to include a red and white cell that incorporates current and future capabilities, doctrine, tactics, techniques, and procedures that emulate a realistic threat.
  • Plan, lead or support joint wargaming and experimentation events in order to establish the design, planning and development criteria through the analysis of concepts, problems or questions and adapting concept-based hypotheses into said events.
  • Assisting the lead planner or team lead planner research and review future concepts, the incumbent will investigate results, and evaluate assessments of completed wargames.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-13, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Selects and applies past military operations, geopolitical situations and foreign military operations to develop and conduct relevant/effective wargame exercises.
  • Utilizes experimentation analysis, design, execution, methodology, planning, and theory to prepare an coordination team for execution of a wargame or experimentation event.
  • Develops, compiles, edits, and presents scenario products to participants to prepare and present formal scenario, coordination team, and experiment briefings;
  • Applies joint wargaming and experimentation concepts to research and develop operationally challenging scenarios.
  • Review coordination team techniques and procedures in order to produce plausible threats through possible scenarios.
You may qualify at the GS-12, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Selects and applies past military operations, geopolitical situations and foreign military operations to develop and conduct relevant/effective wargame exercises.
  • Assists the team leader with experimentation analysis, design, execution, methodology, planning, and theory to prepare an coordination team for execution of a wargame or experimentation event
  • Assists team leader in the developing, compiling, editing, and presenting scenario products to participants to prepare and present formal scenario, coordination team, and experiment briefings.
  • Applies joint wargaming and experimentation concepts to research and develop operationally challenging scenarios;

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Preferred but NOT Required:
A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution in history, military studies, political science or social studies. Advanced degree(s) are preferred.
