This position is currently remote due to the global health crisis. We anticipate a return to our office in October. At that point, the Co-Director for Equality and Inclusion will work on site at our Washington, DC headquarters, with options for part-time telework likely. Background Solidarity Center uses intersectionality as a framework to recognize and address the ways that workers' identities are targeted to deny their rights. One of Solidarity Center's objectives is to dismantle the overlapping systems of discrimination and oppression that trap and exploit workers and degrade and encumber labor unions and other progressive social movements. Solidarity Center supports and engages in the analysis and practice of equality, radical inclusion, and intersectionality that is explicitly feminist, anti-racist, pro-equality, pro-worker, pro-migrant and class-conscious, and that builds connection and collective struggle based on the dignity and value of all workers. Solidarity Center is committed to integrating an intersectional and inclusive approach to its work with unions and workers globally. Summary of Position Solidarity Center seeks a Co-Director of its Equality and Inclusion Department (EID) to provide strategic programmatic direction and technical expertise on diversity, equality and inclusion to its staff and partners. This individual will collaborate with the existing Co-Director to contribute more broadly to the Solidarity Center's capacity to integrate inclusive and intersectional approaches to worker organizing and power building. The position is expected to collaborate with the existing co-director on broad equality and inclusion work, with specific responsibility for directing the development and managing the implementation of the global racial and ethnic justice programmatic work. This will include facilitating workshops utilizing an interactive peer-exchange approach on issues related to racial and ethnic justice for Solidarity Center's partnering unions. To achieve this, the Co-Director will need to build and manage working relationships with Solidarity Center global staff, unions, and allied organizations, coalitions, and networks. Additionally, the Co-Director for Equality and Inclusion must possess a deep understanding of how discrimination and systems of oppression undermine democracy and economic development, with the ability to articulate those issues to donors and other stakeholders. This position requires a significant amount of grant proposal writing, grant management and joint supervision of a small team in Washington. The Co-Directors of the Equality and Inclusion department report directly to the Solidarity Center's Director of Program Coordination. Qualifications Strong understanding of intersectional analysis as it pertains to social, economic, racial, and ethnic justice, and movement-building. At least 10 years of experience developing and implementing programming to promote racial and ethnic equity and inclusion concepts and issues. At least 7 years of experience working for or with labor unions and on issues related to worker rights. Significant experience working in an international context and/or living abroad. Successful record of leadership in advancing diversity, equality and inclusion, equity, racial justice, gender equality, religion, disability, and LGBTQ+ justice. Experience with and understanding of class in society and its relevance to an intersectional approach. Demonstrated ability to serve as a resource and leader, working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, in a politically sensitive context, with competing perspectives or interests. Extensive successful experience developing and delivering educational programming on issues of race, ethnicity, diversity, and inclusion, including facilitation of workshops utilizing an interactive peer-exchange approach. Experience managing staff and/or leading teams. Experience in writing grants to achieve programmatic goals (preferred). Experience raising funds and/or managing grants, ideally from US government agencies (preferred). Experience with budgeting and financial management (preferred).
