Job Description True Colors United is seeking a Digital Communications Officer who is eager to join and grow at a collaborative team at a fast-growing organization committed to social justice, LGBTQ and racial equity, and elevating the voices and leadership of people with lived experience of homelessness. We are looking to add a team member who will bring creativity and passion to telling the story of our organization and work and who is excited at the prospect of helping shape the narrative of youth homelessness and housing justice across the United States and beyond. This is an exciting time to be joining the True Colors United team. We continue to grow internationally and the demand for our work is only increasing. We need an experienced Digital Communications Officer to support our team and grow our channels as we navigate these exciting changes amid an ever evolving digital landscape. This is an opportunity to not only make an impact at True Colors United, but also to advance the human right to housing on a global scale. As the Covid-19 crisis continues, it becomes ever more important that our messaging opens hearts and minds, challenges people to think big, and builds political and public will for solutions to youth homelessness based on LGBTQ and racial equity. The Digital Communications Officer will work with the Associate Communications Director and Public Policy & External Affairs Director, as well as members from the Program and Development teams, to connect with our audiences, and further our reach, and demonstrate the importance of True Colors Uniteds work. Responsibilities Reporting to the Public Policy & External Affairs Director, the Digital Communications Officer will: Creative responsibilities: Develop visual and written content for distribution across multiple channels including social media posts, blogs, and email campaigns Direct creative consultants (graphic designers, web developers, etc.) and provide design support on bigger projects Build community on True Colors United social media channels through authentic audience engagement (two-way dialogue!) Collaborate with partners and coalitions on communications efforts relevant to True Colors Uniteds work (ex. Developing social media toolkits for partners to use on #TrueColorsDay; participating in partner org social media campaigns on intersecting issues) Technical responsibilities: Manage communications channels (including social media, email marketing (Pardot)) Use digital media analytics to drive communications decision-making (including Google Analytics, social media) Provide writing and editing support for programs Manage website content Manage Google Ads account/consultant Minimum Qualifications Professional Experience & Dedication 3-5 years professional experience in nonprofit, government, or political communications roles Demonstrated commitment to LGBTQ and racial equity, and ending youth homelessness Creativity & Innovation Creativity and openness to expressing new ideas Unafraid to veer away from traditional nonprofit voice and tone Interest in cutting edge digital and social media trends Willingness to take risks Communication & Teamwork Skills Above average writing skills Self-starter, flexible and able to manage multiple tasks Effective interpersonal communication skills Ability to work in a team or independently as needed Digital Skills Experience managing social media for brands and/or campaigns (paid and organic) Graphic design experience Search Engine Optimization (SEO) knowledge Content Management System (CMS) experience (ideally WordPress, BuddyPress, Gravity Forms) Preferred Qualifications CRM (Customer Relationship Management) experience (ideally Salesforce), including integrations Press, PR savvy Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and/or InDesign) Video production and editing Familiarity with audience segmentation, targeting, and lead generation Interest in politics and LGBTQ and racial equity Interest in fundraising More Information This is not an entry level position. True Colors United is prepared to offer an attractive compensation package. The salary range will be provided to anyone selected to interview. In addition to a competitive base salary, we offer health insurance, retirement, life insurance, and vacation benefits.During the pandemic, this position will be remote. Post-pandemic, it will likely be based out of True Colors Uniteds Washington, DC office, with the possibility of working in our New York City office.
