Job DescriptionEnsuring patient safety by escalating issues, following standard processes and maintaining equipment. Maintain effective communication in order to keep patients, families, and hospital staff informed. Provide safe, timely, and appropriate intra-hospital monitored transport for adult patients.Job ResponsibilitiesReport any safety-related events according to hospital policy using the established reporting system.Notify supervisors as appropriate.Complete all pre and post transport procedures in order to ensure patient safety.Maintain equipment to the same level of care as in the unit, such as monitors, ventilators, drug infusions, airway management, knowing the location of all crash carts en route and proper equipment maintenance.A face-to-face ISHAPED handoff will be given before and after transport of the patient.Ability to function effectively with frequent interruptions and priority changes. communicate with patients, families, and hospital staff in a courteous, respectful and professional manner.Relay information to departments as needed.Communicate and notify dispatcher if any problems develop.Use appropriate transport tracking system to acknowledge new assignment, placing the job in progress, track jobs progress and complete an assignment.Maintain a record of patient data, such as vital signs, procedures, medications, and patient response.Follow transport procedures and/or their medical records and assist in moving patients when requested utilizing safe transport, moving procedures, and body mechanics.Notify nurse to ensure patient is able to be transported.Document each patient transport appropriately and communicate with clinical staff concerning patient readiness and/or special needs.Maintain potency of intravenous lines, high risk medications, and critical care equipment during transport.Monitor and manage all medical devices (IV's, catheters, and/or portable oxygen) then notify the bedside RN and physician immediately should the device not function properly.Verify patient identification per hospital policy.If patient is able, ask them to state their name and date of birth while comparing to their armband.Assure patient comfort; covering with a blanket for privacy and warmth.Inova Fairfax Hospital is proud to announce that the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) awarded MagnetA' (R) designation, the most prestigious accolade for nursing excellence, to our hospital in December 2020.
