Don't wait, apply today!Job SummaryPerforms general patient care responsibilities including checking schedules and organizing patient flow; recording patient blood pressure, height, weight; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, assisting physicians/nurses; preparing patient for examination and treatment; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls and providing pertinent information.Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include: sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms / requisitions as needed.Organizes medical records, including lab results, progress notes, etc. to ensure provider has all of the necessary information available during the patient's encounter.Instructs patient in basic testing requirements, eg, clean catch urine.Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned which may include: setting up instruments and equipment according to protocol; cleaning exam / procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits; ordering, sorting, storing supplies; restocking exam / procedures rooms.Adheres to and employs appropriate sterile techniques and universal precautions guidelines.Assists with the identification of actual and potential risks to patient safety.Reports patient safety issues to the practice manager in a timely manner.Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinic services.Assists with data collection for quality improvement activities.Participates actively in quality improvement initiatives.Reports consistently patient data in a concise and thorough manner.Seeks to improve the effectiveness of communication and interactions with others.Communicates problems relating to patients and / or staff with practice manager quickly.Respects and promotes patient rights.Demonstrates compassion and caring in dealing with others.Demonstrates participation in continuing education activities that enhance and expand employee's professional knowledge and abilities.Maintains own Employee Continuing Education Record and completes all annual competency reviews.RequirementsExperience: New Medical Assistant graduate enrolled in Inova Medical Assistant Fellowship or 6 months equivalent experienceEducation: High School or GED and Graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting program with a diploma designation with consistent level of known leadership abilities and progressive education in the health care fieldCertification: Certified MA, BLSSpecial Skills:Medical terminology, proficient in English, verbal and written communication skills, computer skills, using fax and copier, point-of-care testing equipment, scanner, vaccination protocolAbout InovaInova is Northern Virginia"s leading nonprofit healthcare provider.
