Job Description

Our team develops and maintains Carta, The Washington Post's email sending and newsletter curation platform. The platform is responsible for the writing, editing, and sending of newsletters as well as marketing emails and other email products for both internal and external use. The Carta team works closely with the newsroom and other internal departments to help produce, manage, and deliver products for the company.

As a member of the Carta team, you will help design, develop, and deploy portions of the platform, ranging from newsletter templates to front-end/back-end development. You will work closely with teams throughout The Washington Post and help find and implement solutions to assist the publishing and advertising workflow.

Responsibilities
  • Research, architect, develop and maintain features and functionality for the Carta platform
  • Assist users with template development and expand the user interface to meet user needs
  • Work with the team to improve processes, streamline workflows, and improve efficiency for the development and deployment process
  • Work with product team to execute on project roadmap
  • Provide production support as part of a rotating on-call
  • Follow best practices for development and documentation to ensure maintainability of the platform


Requirements
  • 3+ years of software engineering experience
  • Strong proficiency with HTML/CSS/JavaScript
  • Experience with Node.js


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Typescript
  • Experience with HTML templating languages such as Nunjucks or Handlebars
  • Experience with Java, Spring Boot
