Housing programs include permanent supportive, rapid rehousing, transitional, and affordable rental housing. Supportive services include case management, employment services, clinical services, housing counseling, resident services, life skills and youth programming.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Permanent Supportive Housing Case Manager Supervisor is responsible for overseeing a permanent supportive housing case management team in their efforts to assist households who are experiencing homelessness. These services help residents obtain and maintain permanent housing within Housing Up’s PSH site-based programs located in Washington, DC. The Case Manager Supervisor guides Case Managers in providing case management in line with Housing Up’s adopted principles and practices to ensure that residents are treated in an empowering, dignified, and sensitive manner. The Case Manager Supervisor also assists the Clinical Manager of Permanent Supportive Housing with administrative tasks related to program management.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Provides day-to-day supervision of Case Managers, implementing all applicable human resource policies and procedures
• Guides staff in providing case management utilizing trauma informed care and a strengths-based approach, which are in line with Housing First and harm reduction principles. Inspires staff to empower the residents and encourage autonomy and a sense of control. Supports staff in handling difficult or complex cases
• Assists with training case management staff in Housing Up’s case management approach, trauma informed care principles, harm reduction practices, motivational interviewing, and program-specific policies and procedures
• Promotes professional development of staff
• Oversees the coordination of services with internal and external partners
• Ensures timely and accurate data management including case notes, assessments, data entry into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS), and other data management systems
• Assists the Clinical Manager of Permanent Supportive Housing with reporting and administrative tasks related to program management
• Provides intervention for program participants and serves as a point of contact for grievances
• Provides on call coverage as needed as part of the programmatic management team rotation
• Attends internal and external meetings on behalf of the Agency and Permanent Supportive Housing Department
• Other duties as required
EDUCATIONAL & WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, or related field
• Minimum three years of related work experience, to include working with clients who are experiencing homelessness, mental illness, and substance abuse
APPLICABLE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
• Experience working with veterans, homelessness, mental health, and/or substance abuse that reflects an understanding of the causes of homelessness
• Working knowledge of a strengths-based, client-centered approach
• Demonstrated cultural competence
• Demonstrated ability to lead a team of case managers
• Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
• Excellent listening and problem-solving
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Knowledge of community resources available to clients
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to be flexible, adapt and adjust to rapid change within a fast paced and growth-oriented environment
• High confidence level in working independently
• Possess and maintain a positive, solution-oriented approach
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL EFFORT
• Requires ability to sit up to 3-6 hours per day with intermittent occasional walking and standing
• Housing Up office hours are 9am-5pm, but case manager supervisors are expected to adjust their schedules to accommodate programmatic needs on evenings and weekends, as needed
• Must be available to participate in after hours on-call rotation, as well as be on call during inclement weather
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• Knowledge of MS Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• May require some weekend and evening hours
• Travel within the Washington, DC community is required
• Valid driver’s license and vehicle required, as well as proof of auto insurance
