Summary

This position establishes the Network Engineer position within Digital Solutions division (TDS) within the Office of the Treasurer. The Operations team within TDS, called TDS-OPS, serves as the focal point for IT infrastructure needs and maintains and secures the operational posture of the Gallery's enterprise and mission critical systems. The Network Engineer reports to the TDS-OPS manager.

Responsibilities

The incumbent:

Install, configure, maintain and evaluate enterprise network infrastructure and support systems, in a geographically distributed environment; troubleshoots the network issues with diverse scope in 24x7 365-days/year environment; and conduct day to day administration, design, configuration, implementation, troubleshooting and monitoring of the enterprise network infrastructure.

Analyze and define network requirements, creating network designs and managing projects. Assist with network architecture design, feasibility, and cost studies.

Establish and maintain network performance. Diagnose and resolve network-related problems. Secure network by enforcing security policies and monitoring compliance.

Proactively monitor enterprise network using available tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios, Cacti, etc.) for potential network issues and taking corrective actions. Systematically log and troubleshoot network issues.

    Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for GS-2210-11.

    Specialized Experience Statement :

    NF-11: Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the NF-9 level in the Federal service, managing an enterprise level network that includes defining business requirements, carrying out a full range of network infrastructure management, engineering and support functions, isolating new issues and conditions, resolving critical problems, as well as developing, testing and implementing new technologies.

    Other Relevant Eligibility Criteria : At least 3 years of hands-on experience managing network routers, switches, firewalls and Wi-Fi devices using technologies from Cisco, Juniper, FortiGate and HP, in an environment with complexity similar or greater than Gallery's environment. Must have hands-on knowledge of transmissions protocols, broadcasting, switching, control, and management including: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, IP addressing, Experience with using network troubleshooting tools such as Wireshark and Putty segmentation, routing, BGP, OSPF, NAT, Cisco IOS, FTP, SSH, Telnet, windowing systems, fiber channel, iSCSI. Experience with Microsoft Visio for maintaining network architecture and proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products for technical documentation. CCNP certification is required. Positive education experience is preferred.

    • Technical knowledge, education, certification and hands-on experience to independently maintain, troubleshoot, and support Gallery's network.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of, and skill in applying network operations, management, and maintenance methods and concepts; network architecture principles and concepts; and quantitative and qualitative analytical reasoning sufficient to serve as network administrator.
