Description The award-winning Art and Soul restaurant is situated on the ground level inside YOTEL Washington DC. Recently undergoing a design and culinary evolution, the new Art and Soul keeps its legacy alive with a refreshed menu that introduces an original take on seasonal, locally-sourced dishes from the Chesapeake Bay watershed communities and the diverse cuisines that influence modern-American food today. Chef Danny Chavez is looking for a Sous Chef who can assist in directing of the culinary team. This role will require daily communication with Chef Chavez and the Restaurant's General Manager, Betty Woodward. The Sous Chef will be charged with daily planning, food requisitions and specials. Management of the stewarding crew, training the cooks and educating the front of house crew will also be a vital part of the Sous Chef's responsibilities. POSITION REQUIREMENTS: An Art and Soul Sous Chef must be able to adhere to all sanitation policies and protocols while embodying the restaurant's concept. They must understand how his/her actions and execution directly affect the guest experience. We are looking for an extraordinary leader who is inspiring and an exceptional culinarian. Requirements for a Sous Chef: College degree or certification in culinary field/hospitality field preferred. Minimum 2 years kitchen management experience required in both a la carte & banquet operations. Ability to communicate effectively with the public and other all crew members. Read, write and speak and understand English. Ability to work extended hours when business necessitates. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
