Supervising Attorney ACE Practice Group Sacramento, Oakland, Ontario, Los Angeles, San Diego or Remote (Only in California) DEADLINE: Open until filled. Advocacy and Community Engagement Practice Group Focused on serving all Californians with disabilities, the Advocacy and Community Engagement (ACE) Practice Group consists of committed advocates and attorneys who work together to empower people to self-advocate and help them resolve their legal issues. We provide trainings and self-advocacy workshops, advice and assistance on the intake hotline, coordinating and implementing community based legal clinics, providing short term advocacy on limited legal issues, and organizing community members for future systemic litigation by Disability Rights California. Our staff are as diverse as the communities we seek to serve and are committed to reaching and empowering under represented and underserved communities. PURPOSE OF THE JOB The Supervising Attorney works under the direct supervision of the Managing Attorney, Lauren Giardina, in collaboration with the Director of the LAU, and other staff at DRC. They will oversee and manage the work under the California State Bar Homelessness Prevention Grants (EAF-HP and NMS-HP) to ensure that DRC provides the best homeless prevention services possible and that we satisfy our grant deliverables and requirements. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Juris Doctor degree (JD) or equivalent and membership in the California State Bar. 7 years of experience practicing law or internal candidates who have worked at DRC for three continuous year and have 6 years of experience practicing law. Demonstrated cultural competency and commitment to identifying and addressing intersectional issues 2 years of experience successfully leading, developing, mentoring, or supervising law-clerks, attorneys or advocates Expertise in one or more substantive areas of law related to the position 2 years of successfully leading multiple advocacy projects such as intake/outreach projects, administrative proceedings, writs, eviction defense, or single client / single defendant lawsuits.
