We encourage candidates to demonstrate how their research contributes toward social justice and equity, diversity and inclusion, or ethical access to information.Founded more than 50 years ago with a specific commitment to advancing social justice, the iSchool enrolls over 1,700 students in five degree programs: Ph.D. in Information Studies, Master of Library and Information Science ( MLIS ), Master of Information Management ( MIM ), Master of Science in Human Computer Interaction ( HCIM ), and Bachelor of Science in Information Science (InfoSci). Faculty members across these programs take advantage of our interdisciplinary environment through their teaching and collaborative research. These programs are offered in the classroom at College Park and Shady Grove campuses, online, and in blended formats. Many members of our faculty hold joint or affiliate appointments with other campus units, including Anthropology, Business, Criminology, Education, Engineering, English, Geographical Sciences, Journalism, Survey Methodology, Public Health, the Maryland Institute for Technology in the Humanities ( MITH ), and the Institute for Advanced Computer Studies ( UMIACS ).Vaccine Protocol The University of Maryland has made the safety of our students, faculty and staff, and our surrounding communities a top priority. Position Summary/Purpose of Position: The College of Information Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park (Maryland's iSchool), invites applications for an open rank tenured or tenure track faculty position. The iSchool particularly seeks candidates whose scholarship and teaching interests are centered on members of underrepresented, marginalized, and/or historically oppressed communities, and focused on one or more of the following areas: Information behavior, information needs, and information access; Information poverty and marginalization; Equitable and asset-based community-driven approaches to design, evaluate, and improve information practices, policies, and technologies.We seek a candidate whose work complements and extends the College's theoretical and methodological traditions in working with members of underrepresented, marginalized, and/or historically oppressed communities. The successful candidate will teach at the undergraduate and graduate level, engage in an active program of high-impact research, provide research advising to students at all levels, and engage in service to the profession and shared governance within the university.This is an open-rank, tenure-track, or tenured appointment. Tenure-track Assistant Professors are hired for 3 years, with potential renewal for three more years and tenure review. Associate and Full Professors are appointed with tenure. Rank and appointment type is determined based on candidates' record and experience. Salary and benefits are competitive based upon qualifications and experience. Tenure-track and tenured faculty have 9-month appointments, with opportunities for grant-funded research and university-funded teaching in summers. For this position, the successful candidate will be involved in: Developing and conducting research projects and disseminating research results Designing and developing curricula related to information science Crafting exceptional educational experiences for students Participating in shared governance Contributing to relevant professional communities. Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D degree at the time of appointment Demonstrated research excellence, including a rank-appropriate record of peer-reviewed research in library and information science, computer science, or related areas and potential to attract external support Interest in developing effective and innovative teaching.Preferences: Recognized for notable research projects, peer-reviewed publications, or other scholarly contributions A record of, or vision for, securing external funding In-person and/or online teaching experience in related areas Demonstrated dedication and service in academia, professional organizations, and research communitiesAdditional Certifications: Additional Information: "The College of Information Studies strives to be a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and welcoming environment.
