Applied Research Associates, Inc. is seeking a scientist/engineer to provide technical support on nuclear counterterrorism, nuclear counterproliferation, and nuclear security topics. The candidate should understand the science of nuclear weapons, nuclear materials, and verification tools/technologies and the relationship of these topics to counterterrorism and counterproliferation, emergency response, security, intelligence, and conventional nuclear integration. The candidate will assist in scenario-based planning exercises.The candidate will work in a team environment and support several on-going projects as well as other emerging opportunities. Position will be located in Arlington VA. area with opportunities for occasional travel.Applicants must have an active DOE Q or DoD TS Security ClearanceREQUIRED SKILLS:Candidate must have demonstrated mathematical and analytical skills related to the physics and engineering of nuclear weapons and the nuclear fuel cycle.Candidate must have well-developed oral and written communication skills with demonstrated experience interfacing with senior civilian executives and scientists.Candidate must be able to work with little supervision, including setting and achieving interim milestones that support higher task objectives.Active DOE Q or DoD TS Security clearance. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:B.S. and seven to nine years of relevant experience, or MS and seven to nine years of relevant experience, or Ph.D. and three to five years of relevant experience. Degree should be in engineering, physics, international security, or a related discipline.Familiarity with the nuclear fuel cycle and nuclear weapon effects, verification technologies and approaches, operational research and analysis.Experience with techniques and methods used in counterterrorism and/or counterproliferationDESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Experience with DOD, NNSA, FEMA, DoS or DHS WMD-exercises or response planning strongly preferredInteragency experience strongly preferredM.S. or Ph.D. degree preferredExperience with DOD or NNSA counterterrorism and/or counterproliferation programs, related nonproliferation and arms control programs or conventional- nuclear integrationAbility to perform statistical analysis and utilize common statistical analysis software packagesAbility to interface and collaborate with international partnersFamiliarity with computer programming languages such as Java, C++ or Python Equal Opportunity Employer/Protected Veterans/Individuals with Disabilities The contractor will not discharge or in any other manner discriminate against employees or applicants because they have inquired about, discussed, or disclosed their own pay or the pay of another employee or applicant.
