General summary/purpose:Performs network management functions on the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH) network including engineering, installation, troubleshooting, maintenance and performance monitoring. Evaluates identified network management needs and prepares recommended technical solutions. Perform installation and configuration of network management products. Monitors network performance and health on an ongoing basis. Create network metrics, alerting and reporting.Specific duties & responsibilities:Duties and responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned): Implement and maintain information systems necessary to monitor and analyze: fault, configuration, accounting, performance, and security of a large scale LAN/WAN infrastructure Proactively monitor information systems and network and take corrective actions to address issues related to performance, capacity, and security. Configure alerting capabilities of monitoring tools and manage escalations, as appropriate. Generate reports including, but not limited to, performance statistics, capacity, and trend analysis. Provide technical assistance and support to engineers and technicians in trouble shooting network and server problems. Review existing and new monitoring tools for consolidation and/or integration into the monitoring tool portfolio. Develop or enhance documentation related to monitoring tools including, but not limited to, system design, standard operating procedures, knowledge base. Participate in large projects and/or complex network changes through implementation of assigned tasks. Participate in on-call support rotation and may act as a point of escalation for lower level technicians. Inform senior level staff and management of problems. Minimum qualifications (mandatory): Bachelor's degree required. 4 years in the area of Network and Information Security. Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.Preferred qualifications: Current security certifications preferred. 7 years of experience Special knowledge, skills, and abilities: TCP/IP knowledge and basic knowledge of routing, switching and troubleshooting. Complete understanding of SNMP and MIBs and how they apply in an enterprise environment Experience with servers, routers, switches, wireless controllers/devices and networking equipment. Understanding of network performance management techniques and software. Previous experience working in a Network Operations Center. Experience with network management platforms such as Cisco Prime Infrastructure, HP Openview (NNMi), Solarwinds, etc. Familiarity with network technologies such as DHCP, DNS, Software Defined Networking (SDN), Cloud Technology, Edge Computing, Internet of Things (IoT), and VoIP. Experience with MS Server OS, Linux OS (Redhat), Cisco IOS/IOS-XE/NX-OS. Experience with firewalls, VPN, IPS, SIEM, NAC, network segmentation and other security technologies. Experience with network analyzing equipment/applications and test tools. Understanding of cabling and wiring standards. Understanding of wireless technologies. Understanding of authentication services and directory services such as Active Directory, RADIUS, and LDAP. Understanding of Storage Area Networks and Clustering technology. Understanding of voice and video technologies. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to provide required documentation and to interact with department heads, staff, users, vendors and consultants. Work requires highly developed analytical skills and the ability to solve complex technical problems using a methodical systematic approach.
