DescriptionThe Registered Nurse, School Health works with the patient, family and health care team in the development of the plan of care. He/she carries out nursing responsibilities and acts as a liaison between school and School Based health center setting which will contribute to the healthy growth and development of the individual child. Frequent communication outside of the work group is required to resolve disagreements, reach agreements and clarify issues/processes. Responsibility exists to ensure that internal customers are satisfied with service. Communicates with external contacts frequently and is responsible to ensure ongoing service.Carries out responsibilities in accordance with Baltimore Medical System Core Values, policies/ procedures and applicable civil laws. Is accountable for efficient use of resources and support of the BMS mission.Essential functionsIndividualized care plans are thorough and accurate on all children with chronic illnesses .Works continuously to ensure students' immunization compliance for school attendance.Identifies social concerns that interfere with health status of a child in the school setting. Is proactive in making recommendations following established procedures.Independently contacts primary care provider as appropriate to support the individual care of school age children. Always acts as a patient advocate.Appropriately screens patient problems whether in person or by phone and provides resolution to the problem by advice or referral.Provides therapy or the monitoring of therapy in accordance with established protocols.Assumes responsibility for the care of students who have suffered injury or acute illness, to include cleaning and dressing abrasions or dressing changes.Performs limited physical exams and developmental assessments.Procures a complete client health and social history.Performs nursing assessments on students as appropriate.Utilizes policies and methods for communicable disease control, including the interpretation of the school entry immunization law.Schedule/Hours:Mon-Fri 8:00-4:30 PMRequirementsRequired Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.Preferred Education: BSN preferred.Required Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: Current RN license in good standing issued by the Maryland Board of NursingCurrent CPR certification (Healthcare Provider)required.Required Experience: One year clinical experience in acute or ambulatory care.School nursing experience a plus.Preferred Experience: Pediatric and Adolescent nursing experience preferred.
