Title: Junior/Mid-Level Programmer/Analyst Location: Silver Spring, MD Terms: Full-Time Duration: Multi-Year Clearance: Must have or be Public Trust eligible. By virtue of that, US Citizenship/Permanent Residency is required. Travel: No Position Overview: The Junior to Mid-Level scientific programmer/analyst will be working on a program for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA). This person will operate, maintain, and further develop NOAA/CoastWatch ocean satellite data processing systems. This position requires knowledge of software engineering procedures and programming languages, in support of the current systems that generate ocean satellite products in HDF and NetCDF format and render satellite imagery. The position involves software testing and quality assurance. Responsibilities: Conduct daily operations and maintenance of existing ocean satellite data processing systems, including data flow monitoring and troubleshootingDevelop new and enhance existing data processing systems and contribute to the design of new systems based on requirements, resources, and customer needsPrepare and submit existing software inventories to GitlabSupport and contribute to design of data management/delivery systemsDevelop technical and non-technical documentation required for data processing system deliveriesEmbody the NOAA CoastWatch mission to promote and ease the use of our ocean and coastal satellite, model and ancillary data in downstream applications for decision-making Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree, or higher in computer science, information systems, mathematics, engineering or a related disciplineAt least two (2) years of programming experience in Python, Perl, Java, C, JavaScript, HTML and/or Unix Shell scriptsWorking experience with version control software (Git preferred)Proficiency in UNIX/LINUX operating systemsExperience with geographic and image data processingExperience with scientific data formats, such as HDF and NetCDFFamiliarity with SQL databases (such as PostgreSQL and MySQL)Familiarity with web servers and Drupal CMSStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to develop creative problem-solving skills Preferred Qualifications: Cloud development experience is a plusKnowledge of scientific data types and metadata standards is desirableExperience working with Federal/Government contractors About RIVA: RIVA Solutions, Inc. is a rapidly growing provider of information Technology and Program Support Services to the United States Federal Government.
