The George Mason University, Mason Enterprise Center invites applications for three (3) Life Science Business Mentor positions. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.

About the Department:

The Virginia SBDC and its ICAP program are part of the Mason Enterprise Center.

Virginia SBDC: The Virginia SBDC is an organization of 27 local Small Business Development Center offices across Virginia providing professional business counseling, training, and business resources to help grow and strengthen Virginia businesses.

ICAP: The Innovation Commercialization Assistance Program (ICAP) is focused on helping Virginia-based technology and innovation-driven startups on their path to success. ICAP works with startups to provide support along their entire journey towards scaling - from the early idea stage, all the way through working on Series A level of funding. This is accomplished through experiential learning programs and one-on-one advising with a team of experienced entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs. These services are offered at no cost and all advising is confidential.

About the Position:

The Innovation Commercialization Assistance Program (ICAP), a program of the Virginia Small Business Development Center (Virginia SBDC) housed at George Mason University, is hiring three (3) Life Science Business Mentors (the "Mentors") to support early-to seed stage life science companies across the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Mentors will work in collaboration with leadership from VA Bio-Connect, a new initiative led by Virginia Bio and comprised of a multidisciplinary team of regional leaders to strengthen Virginia's Bioeconomy. We are seeking professionals with experience in the life science sector who can assist companies to advance commercially relevant technologies through the commercialization path that include the regulatory process. The Mentors will be part of a team, possessing complementary and diverse skills, that provide participating Virginia-based life science companies with guidance and support as they work to achieve key milestones.

The Mentors will assist companies by connecting them with existing entrepreneurial programs and resources, such as the Hampton Roads' 757 Accelerate, Roanoke's Regional Area Mentoring Program (RAMP), and Richmond's Lighthouse Labs. The Mentors will provide life science companies with deep and granular assistance in areas such as (but not limited to): business strategic planning and guidance, financial strategies, investor outreach and pitch support, product development, navigating regulatory pathways, strengthening management teams and advisory boards, and fostering partnerships.

In addition to working one-on-one with clients, Mentors will also become involved in the regional and statewide entrepreneurial ecosystems. This includes engaging potential and existing partners, developing client pipelines, presenting at relevant events including VA Bio-Connect monthly entrepreneurship workshop, and traveling throughout the region for in-person offerings.

ICAP is seeking to hire Mentors with subject matter expertise in one or more of the areas listed below. Eligible candidates should have experience in the area(s), with special priority given to those that have successfully launched and had an exit with a company in that field.
