Principal Analyst, Corporate Development

The Corporate Development Principal Analyst will help execute financial and strategic analysis of specific potential merger & acquisition transactions, as well as more generally evaluate financial and strategic considerations relating to businesses that Capital One operates or may consider entering. The Principal Analyst will be a key team member in support of Capital One's overall corporate goals. He or she will work closely with other areas of Capital One on these assignments to bring an integrated perspective to the analysis. These areas will include the business lines, corporate strategy group, finance and legal departments. As well as acquisitions, the Principal Analyst may be involved in joint ventures and business or asset divestitures. In addition to analytical support, the Principal Analyst will participate in all transaction phases, including negotiation, structuring, due diligence and integration.

The Principal Analyst will be responsible for:
  • Creating and maintaining financial models for acquisitions, joint ventures, or divestitures
  • Structuring analyses efficiently to ensure accurate conclusions with an economy of time and effort
  • Conducting detailed research and strategic analysis on industries and/or companies
  • Working collaboratively across a cross-functional project or deal team to conduct diligence, review transaction documents, or coordinate inputs for financial modeling
  • Working with external counterparties (including companies and external financial, consulting or legal advisors)
  • Developing presentation materials that effectively summarize strategic and financial analysis and key takeaways associated with an opportunity
  • Writing and delivering communications to executive audiences


The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Excellent financial modeling skills, including work in some or all of the following:
    • Valuation analysis,
    • Mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures
    • Bank capital measurement / requirement analysis
  • Prior experience in investment banking, corporate development, private equity, hedge fund, product management or transaction valuation preferred
  • Knowledge of financial accounting, capital markets, and valuation concepts
  • Strong research skills
  • Strong problem solving and conceptual thinking skills
  • Advanced communication and presentation skills, both written and oral
  • Demonstrated success with team management and project management, including ability to handle multiple concurrent projects


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in investment banking, or in corporate development, or in private equity, or in hedge funds, or in transaction valuation, or in product management
  • At least 3 years of experience with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 4+ years of experience in investment banking, or in corporate development, or in private equity, or in hedge funds, or in transaction valuation, or in product management
  • 4+ years of experience in the financial technology industry, or in the commercial banking industry, or in the consumer finance industry
  • 4+ years of experience in financial analysis
