Digital Communications and Research Director

The George Mason University Center for Climate Change Communication, within the Department of Communication, is seeking a Digital Communications and Research Director for the Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health. About the Medical Society Consortium: The Consortium is an organization of medical societies representing over 600,000 physicians, which have come together to communicate with the public and policymakers about the health harms associated with climate change and the benefits of climate solutions. The Consortium seeks to increase the capacity of individual physicians, national medical societies, and their state chapters to address the extraordinary challenge to human health represented by climate change. Capacity building includes education about the causes, impacts, and mechanisms by which climate change is affecting human health, the best practices for communicating about climate change, the options for protecting vulnerable people from adverse health effects of climate change, and for slowing future climate change by advancing solutions. The office of the Consortium is based at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA.

About the Position: The Digital Communications Director reports directly to the Executive Director and manages visually creative aspects of the material work of the Consortium.

Responsibilities * Maintain the visual branding standards of Consortium printed and electronic materials, e-newsletters, email campaigns, social media, advertising, and other related material; * Assist with the development and implementation of communication, digital and marketing strategies to maximize awareness of the Consortium's programs, policies and initiatives; * Guide outside creative consultants in the production of additional marketing material; * Plan and supervise the ongoing development, maintenance and revision of the Consortium websites and social media channels in accordance with the mission and the goals of the organization; * Analyze SEO and marketing metrics and provide regular reports; * Work with members of affiliated state groups to assist in development of websites, logos and other related visual branding materials; * Manage Consortium subscriber and advocate data lists and oversee the collection and maintenance of records on the advocate activities of the Consortium for reporting purposes; * Contact and provide information to potential new member societies or affiliate groups; * Translate marketing objectives into clear creative strategies; * Review work, troubleshoot and provide feedback to team members; * Work collaboratively with other members of the Consortium management and teams to exercise the above responsibilities.

Required Qualifications: * Undergraduate degree in Communications, Information Technology, Digital Communications, Social Media, Web Construction and Management, Graphic Design, Marketing, and other related fields; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; * Thorough understanding of graphic design, social media, and web best practices; * Solid knowledge database management; * Experience with a variety of technical languages and software, including Adobe Creative Suite (in particular Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), Microsoft Suite, Google Drive, Google Analytics, WordPress, MailChimp, HTML; * Excellent communication skills; * Excellent text editing skills and a keen eye for detail; * Strong understanding of brand development and multichannel marketing concepts; * Comfort interacting with external stakeholders and internal staff alike.

Preferred Qualifications: * Knowledge of video editing advantageous; * Undergraduate degree in a health field.
