Post-Doctoral Research Fellow The George Mason University, Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, within the College of Science (COS), invites applications from outstanding candidates for a Post Doctoral Research Fellow beginning January 1, 2022. Responsibilities: The candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team developing novel techniques for materials development at both the molecular and nanoscale. Specific responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to: * Research on structure-property relationships for response properties (i.e., conductance, etc.) for molecular and nanoscale systems; * Running large-scale problems on supercomputing platforms; * Development and/or implementation of advanced algorithms for data analytics, machine learning, and AI using Java, Python, and R; * Attendance of meetings to provide briefings on progress and developments; * Design experiments, conduct research, and prepare manuscripts for publication in leading journals and peer-reviewed academic conferences. Required Qualifications: * Applicants for the Postdoctoral Research Fellow must have received a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related field by the start date of the position; * Must possess knowledge of Computational Chemistry Software packages; * Ability to demonstrate strong skills in Python and related machine learning packages; * Must possess the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Preferred Qualifications: * Publications in academic, peer-reviewed venues in the areas of Computational Chemistry, Computational Physics, Materials, Computer Science, and/or closely related fields; * Experience in using machine learning and AI in Chemistry or Materials; * Experience in developing software-based hardware applications; * Experience in developing advanced algorithms and/or implementing open-source algorithms for various chemistry related applications; * Have expertise in one of the following areas: ** Code Development ** Computational Chemistry/Physics software ** Java, C++, or similar. About the Department: The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry offers undergraduate programs leading to the BA or BS (ACS certification) degrees in Chemistry, with optional concentrations in Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or Environmental Chemistry; a five-year BS/Accelerated MS degree; a traditional MS degree and a PhD in Chemistry. The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry has research labs and faculty distributed over three campuses addressing two primary research thrust areas: Fairfax campus (sustainability - physical, solid state inorganic, organic, and analytical chemistry), the Science and Technology campus in Manassas (biomedical - biochemistry, synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry), and the Potomac Environmental Research & Education Center (sustainability - environmental chemistry). The research funding portfolio includes the Department of Defense, National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), other government and non-profit agencies, and private industry. Faculty in the department have close collaborations with researchers from a number of local and regional institutions, including the United States Army Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID), Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR), NIH, Food and Drug Administration, Naval Research Laboratory, National Institute of Standard and Technology (NIST), the United States Geological Survey (USGS), and Inova Health System among others.
