Research programs of interest may include, but are not limited to, microbial pathogenesis, host-pathogen interactions, molecular immunology and/or vaccine development. Additional areas of interest might include host immunological response to these pathogens, in depth studies in immunological responses to infection, and interference strategies (passive immunization, active immunization) would be desirable. Teaching requirements of the position will be consistent with the College of Science Workload Guidelines and include a combination of graduate and undergraduate courses. Faculty are also expected to mentor graduate and undergraduate students. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute synergistically to the existing strengths of SSB by collaborating with faculty members in SSB, related research centers, and other departments while utilizing the department's existing resources effectively. The incumbent will have access to the research resources of the National Center for Biodefense and Infectious Diseases (NCBID), including the BSL3 containment laboratory, the BSL3 aerosol suite, and ABSL3 facilities. The incumbent will also have access to research resources in Mason's Center for Applied Proteomics and Molecular Medicine (CAPMM), including multiple mass-spectrometers, reverse phase protein arrays (RPPA), expertise in signal transduction and cancer research and a CAP/CLIA laboratory for project support and collaboration. Required Qualifications: * Completion of a Ph.D. in microbiology, infectious diseases, immunology, or a related field prior to the first day in this position; * Demonstrated research productivity focused on microbiology and infectious diseases or molecular immunology of infectious diseases; * Excellence in research demonstrated by publication record in peer-reviewed journals; * Demonstrated potential to establish an independent research program and a strong record of obtaining extramural research support evidenced by receipt of funding awards; * Demonstrated accomplishment in teaching graduate and undergraduate-level courses; * Demonstrated commitment to mentoring and supervising graduate students. Preferred Qualifications: * Research program that involves microbiology and infectious diseases or molecular immunology of infectious diseases with a focus on bacterial infections; * Research program involving animal models of infection and uses ABSL2 or ABSL3 facilities; * Teaching, Research and Mentoring experience in bacteriology; * Record of obtaining extramural research support evidenced by receipt of independent funding awards; and * Demonstrated successful teamwork in a collaborative environment.
