ABOUT THE ROLE:

Capital One is looking for a seasoned, strategic, results-driven communications professional to join a growing group of PR experts on our Corporate Communications team supporting Capital One's Experience Design and Machine Learning Communications.

Capital One's Experience Design and Machine Learning teams are at the forefront of enriching our customers' products and services. The Communications Senior Manager will focus on leading communications strategy around Capital One's Design and Machine Learning efforts, encompassing a broad and complex array of topics including but not limited to: user experience, service design, machine learning, responsible and ethical AI, machine learning, and data design.

This person will partner with leaders across the Design and Machine Learning teams to develop and lead strategic, integrated, multi-dimensional communications and thought leadership strategies that highlight Capital One's unique and innovative approach to experience design, data, machine learning, and ethical and responsible AI/ML. The Senior Manager will partner closely with senior leaders in our Design and Machine Learning teams to build thoughtful, impactful and integrated thought leadership and communications strategies.

This position requires exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills; expert understanding of and experience working with traditional media; deep understanding of experience design with a strong working knowledge of the intersections of AI, machine learning, and human-centered design; experience leading projects and teams to meet objectives; and the ability to build trusted relationships - particularly with executives and senior leaders - while operating in a fast-paced, complex environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Exhibit a deep understanding of and ability to communicate Capital One's approach to experience design and the intersection of AI/ML
  • Work closely and collaboratively with senior leaders in our Design and Machine learning teams and key stakeholders to build deep, trusted relationships
  • Identify themes, topics and content that will resonate with target audiences and meet strategic objectives
  • Leverage data and insights to inform narratives and influence programming
  • Understand, identify and effectively navigate potential risks and sensitivities


Lead integrated communications strategies, including paid, earned, shared and owned media
  • Build, implement and scale both internal and external thought leadership programs supporting our Design and Machine learning leaders and organizations
  • Identify news hooks and agile PR opportunities that support the Design and Machine Learning teams, and individual leaders, thought leadership and awareness-buildings objectives - both internally and externally
  • Build and enhance mutually beneficial relationships among target media
  • Thoughtfully determine when to incorporate earned media, experiential and content components into thought leadership and communications programming
  • Coordinate outreach, leveraging key contacts and managing relationships to ensure media coverage across a range of media verticals
  • Draft and lead the development of effective communications materials to include strategic plans, op-eds, owned content, internal-facing content, press releases, media alerts, remarks, social media content and other communications documents for various internal and external audiences
  • Oversee flawless media engagement through comprehensive spokesperson prep, on the ground support, and follow-up


Partner and collaborate with Corporate Communications team members to ensure well-managed (consistent, streamlined, value-driven and strategic) media engagement
  • Effectively manage agency(s) and vendors to support programming and media engagement
  • Assess risks, issues and potential communications problems and provide proactive solutions


Embrace research, measurement and analytical thinking as a means to drive Impact
  • Ensure all work is executed through a lens of strategic impact and measurement, leveraging the latest tools and technology to drive thought leadership, brand awareness and engagement

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • At least 5 years of Public Relations experience
  • At least 2 years working with Digital Experience Design teams (software and mobile development)
  • At least 2 years of Machine Learning Communications experience


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong working knowledge of the intersection of AI, machine learning, and human-centered design
  • At least 7 years of Public Relations experience
  • At least 3 years working with Digital Experience Design teams (software and mobile development)
  • At least 7 years of experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • At least 3 years of experience with executive-level clients
  • Experience working effectively with multiple constituents, including peers, executive management, senior management
  • At least 7 years of experience with current digital technology
  • Understanding of SEO, content and social analytics best practices and principles
  • UX or technology background
