Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Power Conversion Technology Lead Engineer to join our growing design team located in Baltimore, MD. Our Power/Control Systems business is looking for an exceptionally talented, motivated and creative power technology lead to support product development and R&D activities. This candidate must be a strong team participant, have excellent communications skills, and be resourceful and multitalented. Technically, this candidate must be capable of performing and leading teams in the detailed design and analysis of power conditioning equipment associated with power supplies, variable speed drives, frequency converters and multi-level converters in a wide variety of applications ranging from 10s of watts to multi-megawatt converters for space, airborne, shipboard and ground-based combat platforms. Implementation will involve advanced power conversion technology employing high frequency PWM, multi-level architectures, high speed communications and digital and analog controls. Modeling and simulation using SABER for power stages (including associated transformers, input/output filters, dynamic loads, switching devices) and SABER or MATLAB for controls is essential for validating hardware design and performance. Other tasks would include the design of gate drives, protection circuits, I/O interface circuits and control hardware associated with the power stage. Individual needs to lead small multi-disciplinary teams, support cost and schedule estimates and author reports.Roles and Responsibilities: - Design team leadership - Perform power supply design, including simulation and analysis, schematic creation, component selection, and printed wiring board layout - Perform worst case analysis and component stress analysis - Develop Acceptance Test Procedures and perform first piece hardware checkout/testing - Work in a lab environment and support hardware productionBasic Qualifications: To be considered for this position, you must meet the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:Minimum Education / Experience: 14 Years with Bachelors in Science; 12 Years with Masters; 9 Years with PhD.- Leadership experience- Familiar with basic isolated and non-isolated circuit topologies & control techniques- Familiar with simulation tools (eg SPICE, LTSpice, SABER), MathCad- Must have an active Secret Clearance and be able to obtain a Top Secret ClearancePreferred Qualifications: Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:- Current and active Top Secret clearance- Familiar with power supply EMI/EMC filtering and design- Digital control experience- Active power factor correction design experience- Magnetic component design experience- High voltage design experience (up to 200 kV)- Working knowledge of power related Mil-Stds for power quality and electromagnetic interferenceNorthrop Grumman is committed to hiring and retaining a diverse workforce.
