Program Coordinator

The George Mason University African and African American Studies Program (AAAS), invites applications for a Program Coordinator to manage office operations and administrative duties.   • Provide administrative support to the AAAS program;
  • Manage fiscal coordination of program with supervision from Associate Director;
  • Support students who minor in AAAS and assist with recruitment and student-related needs;
  • Supervise student wage and work study assistants;
  • Collaborate with all academic units, administrative offices, and community stakeholders;
  • Maintain all forms of communication among students and faculty;
  • Coordinate and supervise special events;
  • Manage websites and maintain a social media presence for the program;
  • Manage research and resource center with guidance from Director and Associate Director.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Organized individual with administrative experience and the ability to work as part of a team;
  • Knowledge and skill using electronic communication;
  • Ability to problem-solve and negotiate resolution of issues;
  • Ability to multitask and shift priorities as necessary;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Interest in African and African American issues.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of higher education experience;
  • Experience using Degree audit and planning tools, learning management systems;
  • Experience with multiple social media platforms;
  • Experience in web design and or/maintenance of webpages;
  • Experience in planning events and conferences.
