The George Mason University, Stearns Center for Teaching and Learning invites applications for an Instructional Technologist. About the Position:

The Stearns Center for Teaching and Learning at George Mason University is currently seeking an Instructional Technologist to work as a team member within the Office of Digital Learning. Instructional Technologists support the development and maintenance of technology-rich teaching and learning by providing development opportunities and technical support related to Mason's learning management system for online, and hybrid courses. This includes support for academic courses, self-paced learning modules, multimedia components, and other training resources for faculty, staff, and students.

Working hours are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm with flexibility to meet business demands as needed.

Responsibilities:

Instructional Technologists are primarily responsible for training, modeling, and assisting faculty and instructional design staff in developing and integrating technology to improve student achievement and learning outcomes.

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Instructional Design, Graphic Design, Education or related field; or, equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience with e-learning authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline and Rise 360;
  • Professional work experience providing technology-related support to faculty and/or related staff (One year of this experience is preferred);
  • Familiarity with instructional technologies, including learning management systems, tool adoption, piloting, and training.
  • Ability to work effectively with non-technical faculty and staff;
  • Ability to translate content into multimedia products in formats including but not limited to: video, audio, graphics, digital animations, and HTML5;
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a project team;
  • Experience supporting faculty in their use of learning management systems;
  • Experience in higher education setting and ability to work in a university environment;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines, simultaneously;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Experience with cloud-based tools such as Office 365 or G-Suite.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in in information technology, instructional design, graphic design, education or related field;
  • Experience with JavaScript (to build custom interactive objects) or graphic design skills (Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator);
  • Conversant in instructional design fundamentals;
  • Conversant in strategies for formative and summative assessment;
  • Expertise collaborating in an agile development team;
  • Experience with Blackboard Learn;
  • Experience with instructional and training video storyboard writing, design, and development.
