About the Law & Economics Center (LEC):


The LEC of the George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School is a national center for research and education that focuses on the timely and relevant economic analysis of legal and public policy issues. To fulfill its education mission, the LEC provides dynamic training programs in law and economics to audiences including federal and state judges, state attorneys general, congressional staff members, academics, and other legal professionals.

About the Position:


The Associate Director of Events will plan and effectively execute multiple projects through an ever-changing environment. The ideal person will have a keen sense for meeting Center objectives and those of both internal and external stakeholders. The incumbent will work collaboratively across all LEC divisions and leadership (Executive Director, Deputy Executive Director, and Chief of Staff) with duties in planning and executing the mission, vision, and identity of the Law & Economics Center through educational programs.

Responsibilities:

The Associate Director of Events will be responsible for overseeing the LEC's Event division and handling the logistical elements of the large number of education programs offered by the LEC and the GMU Law School with an appreciation for the well-educated audiences the LEC and the Law School serves and the ability to execute professional and polished events with excellence.

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent training and experience;
  • Significant (10+ years preferred) experience in event planning and production;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and a familiarity with database software;
  • Ability to travel independently and ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends;
  • Professional demeanor and customer service orientation. Striving to exceed expectations of internal and external constituencies;
  • Able to prioritize and seek clarification when priorities are unclear;
  • Thorough understanding of event venue and vendor contracts as well as successful contract negotiation resulting in appropriate and accurate event contracts;
  • Professional demeanor and strong communication skills, both written and spoken;
  • High level of attention to detail;
  • Team oriented, problem-solving approach to tasks.
