Summary

This position is located at Bureau of Engraving and Printing,Electric Shop. As an Electrician, you will install, modify, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair the electrical/electronic components of an industrial facility and associated equipment such as AC and DC power distribution systems; Security intrusion detection systems; Fire alarm signaling systems; Industrial battery trucks; CCTV and monitor installations; and food preparation and service units.

Responsibilities

As an Electrician, you will:
-Install, modify, troubleshoot, maintain and repair the electrical/electronic components of an industrial facility and associated equipment in support of the printing and processing of U.S. currency and related products.
-Interprets domestic and foreign drawings, schematics, manufacturer's maintenance instruction manuals, and associated wiring diagrams of interacting subsystems, to troubleshoot and repair facility-related machinery for any electrically related problems, which may occur.
-Work with microprocessors and programmable controllers in the various areas of the Bureau.
-Use hand tools, power shop toots, and electrical test equipment such as: ammeters, voltmeters, multi-meters, phase-testers, chart recorders, etc.

Physical Requirements:
The incumbent must be able to climb and work from ladders, scaffolds, platforms and lifts up to 100 feet. Maintain concentration around moving machinery. Must be able to work in strained positions standing, stooping, kneeling, or bending, have good vision, no color blindness, good hearing, and able to lift and move object weighing up to 75 lbs. on a regular or recurring basis.

    Education

    Education Requirements:

    This job requires an active Journeyman and/or Master Electricians license and an in-depth knowledge of trade skills, electrical theory, blueprint and specification reading, electrical drafting, trade related mathematics and the National Electrical Code.


    The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Refer to the OPM instructions .

    • The facility typically shuts down annually between Christmas and New Year's Day. As such, all BEP employees must take leave for work days during the shutdown period.
