Field Service Technician
Field Service TechnicianOwings Mills MDW-2 Contract 25:00- 30:00The Field Service Technician (30hr) will report directly to the Service Manager of and is responsible for maintaining, calibrating, troubleshooting, and repairing instruments in the field at customer locations, as well as in the Service Center/Factory when not traveling. The Field Service Technician will also provide other post-sale technical support to customers and distributors (remotely or on site) and may be asked to assist in reviewing application requirements, develop test methodologies, review and analyze test results, and communicate to both internal and external customers. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Scope of Product Responsibility * 100P, 100Xp, 100Xs Aerosol Penetrometers * JSMLT, PMLT and TDA-99M Protective Mask Leakage Testers * TDA-99B Protective Mask Test System * Portables equipment: aerosol generators, photometers and accessoriesTechnical Proficiency * Knowledge of operation, assembly and QC procedures for each of the products as a prerequisite to providing technical support to customers post-sales. * Working knowledge of the core technologies used in each product. * Ability to provide comprehensive troubleshooting for each of the products. * Works closely with Marketing, Quality, Engineering, Service, and Production on Root Cause Analysis of production and service issues.Customer Support Post-Sales * Respond to customer requests for post-sales technical assistance. * Maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of customer equipment, to be performed in house or at customer sites. JSMLT Program Support * Work in partnership with government representatives to maintain and calibrate equipment, and potentially to train users on the operation and basic maintenance of the instrument.Configuration Management (CM) and Documentation * Maintains and updates information in our CM system to properly support customers with Aerosol Penetrometers or JSMLT equipment. * Proficiency in using the calibration database, including generation of calibration certificates, service records, or other required documentation.General Job Duties * Perform routine maintenance and calibration of the equipment including pre-use inspection evaluation of equipment malfunction as necessary, and periodic functionality testing to proactively prevent issues during operation, both in-house and at customers sites as necessary. * Electronic troubleshooting and mechanical trouble shooting to the component level; evaluates and resolve equipment malfunctions as necessary. * When assisting customers with maintenance of new and existing equipment, provides feedback to internal stakeholders to assist in developing test protocols. * Coordinate with customer shipping and receiving department(s) to expedite repairs of equipment. * Coordinate periodic evaluations of the equipment with the customer to make determinations as to repair or re-placement needs in the event of damage loss wear and tear etc. * Work with Customer to schedule inspection, repair, and/or replacement of equipment when damaged worn and lost etc. * Must be able to travel domestically and internationally 30% of the time or more as needed to customer sites. * Perform other duties as assigned.Minimum Background and Skills Required: * HS Diploma or equivalent. * 5 years or more of technical customer interface experience. * 2 years' experience training customers in the use and maintenance of technical products. * Ability to read and interpret work instructions, schematics and wiring diagrams. * Intermediate soldering skills. * Knowledge of basic and digital electronic theory. * Familiar with signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and power meters. * Strong aptitude to understand and solve customer technical issues and problem solve on the spot. * Excellent interpersonal skills and a personality that inspires trust and respect from customers. * Excellent written and verbal communications skills, proven record in presenting to customers and groups. * Ability to communicate customer technical problems and product needs to our internal teams. * Strong time management skills. * Great attitude and a desire to continually expand base of technical and trouble-shooting knowledge. * Proficient skills in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), ability to use Excel to analyze data. * Familiarity with database use, management and maintenance. * Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment with customers that expect a high caliber of service on complicated products. * Strong sense of self-motivation with a goal-oriented approach to work. * Willingness to travel (mostly domestic, overnight) at least 30% of the time, this will vary. * Some travel may be on weekends or over weekends to meet customer needs.Additional Background and Skills Preferred: * AS Degree, or BS Degree in a relevant technical field, engineering, engineering technology or electronics focus preferred. * Technical background in pneumatics, avionics, electronic instruments, or instrumentation devices is preferred. * Diagnostic skills in trouble-shooting electronic instrumentation problems. * Military experience strongly preferred, particularly with protective masks or other life support equipment. * Particle measurement technology experience. * Experience with design or production of protective masks, mask cartridges or filter media.
