Responsibilities Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within US Customs and Border Protection, Office of Training and Development, Immediate Office of the Assistant Commissioner in Washington, DC Joining US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Training and Development (OTD) will allow you to use your expertise in overseeing various CBP functions and/or administrative programs. This position starts at a salary of $122,530.00 (GS-14, Step 1) to $159,286.00 (GS-14, Step 10) with promotion potential to $159,286 (GS-14 Step 10). Typical work assignments include: Directing, implementing, coordinating and overseeing a wide variety of sophisticated management information systems that focus on long and short-range plans, policies, and programs along with training development or administrative initiatives, requests and decisions; Exercising supervisory responsibilities over professional staff to include, but not limited to, directing and planning work, setting and adjusting priorities, preparing work schedules, determining resource requirements, recommending awards and approving leaves. and appraising subordinate workers' performance; Coordinating the establishment and accomplishment of unit goals, priorities and deadline; Developing, modifying, and/or interpreting performance standards; Appraising subordinate worker's performance and holding employees responsible for satisfactory completion of work assignments; Reviewing higher headquarters guidance and providing expert analytical support and advice on problem definition, planning and execution methodologies, polices, and procedures; Reviewing completed work and preparing and/or reviewing all proposed submissions for substance, conformance, and completeness; and Planning, developing, conducting, coordinating or participating in planning management and special studies and providing technical assistance and support to senior leadership and staff in all matters relating to the daily execution of OTD operations and training programs. Qualifications Experience: You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Directing, implementing, coordinating, and/or overseeing various functions of administrative programs; planning, conducting, or participating in special studies personally or through team members; Providing advice, guidance, and direction on a range of administrative functions and operational issues, policies, procedures, and directives; Identifying requirements and initiating requests for additional resources including personnel, equipment, supplies, and space to ensure success in meeting goals and objectives; Providing advice to senior supervisors on significant issues and problems related to work accomplishments and goals; and Developing and evaluating policies in assigned program areas, taking necessary actions to achieve organizational objectives, and recommending program objectives and improvements for the future. Additional Information Bargaining Unit: This position is not covered under the bargaining unit. Supervisory Probationary Period: You may be required to serve an 18 month probationary period upon appointment. Leadership Training: All newly appointed Second Level CBP Supervisors are required to complete mandatory training. The training will be scheduled by the Office of Training and Development within the first 90 days of appointment. The duration of the training will include ASLT four (4) weeks of in-residence training in Harpers Ferry, WV. Note: This training may be waived if previously completed.
