The Office of Development manages the Trustees, institutional partnerships, leadership giving, the International Advisory Council, the Brookings Council, the Brookings Society, and overall fundraising strategies for the Executive Office and Institution at large . Please note Position Location : This position is based in Brookings' Washington, DC office. The person hired for this position must be willing to move to or currently reside in Washington DC, Maryland, or Northern Virginia by their date of hire.? ? Operating status: ?Brookings eligi ble employees are currently authorized to work remotely but will be moving towards a hybrid plan later this year, which will require working both in the office and remotely . Responsibilities Ready to contribute to Brookings success? The Director of Development Services (Director) is responsible for managing all fundraising services activities, including gift processing, budget and revenue projections and monitoring, donor communications including acknowledgements and stewardship, human resources (including professional d evelopment ) , prospect management, prospect research, fundraising analytics and reporting, and the development of institutional and departmental gift/grant policies and standards. This position directly supervises the data/reporting, donor communications, and research teams to ensure data integrity and strong analytics and reporting, strategic use of fundraising systems, accurate incoming gift management, prospect management and research, and a coordinated and intentional donor stewardship process. The Director also oversees, along with the Director of Development Communications, the updating of the Donor Guidelines, the enhanced review of corporate and foreign funding proposals , as well as staffs the Brookings Gift Policy Committee and process along with the mediation of any issues that arise with prospects and donors as a result of the due diligence process. Fundraising Services Manageme nt (60%) + Supervises all fundraising services, including gift and acknowledgement processing, prospect research and prospect management, data analytics and reporting, donor communications and stewardship, and utilization and maintenance of the Raiser's Edge fundraising database and the SharePoint sites. + Oversees and supervises staff responsible for prospect research activities, including briefings, bios, and timely news updates, donor/prospect rating, and due diligence. + Leads the strategy, development, and maintenance of a comprehensive prospect and donor management and tracking system to support Institution-wide development activities. + Provides Development Services support to the Vice President and Managing Director of Development in supporting the efforts and meetings of the Board of Trustees, Development Committee, Executive Committee, International Advisory Council, and any other efforts as assigned. + Oversees,along with the Director of Development Communications, the updating of the Donor Guidelines, the enhanced review of corporate and foreign funding proposals, as well as staff the Gift Policy Committee and process and the mediation of any issues that arise with prospects and donors as a result of the due diligence process. Revenue Forecasting/ Tracking, Analytics, and Repor ting (20%) + Tracks unrestricted, President's Special Initiatives Fund, and select restricted revenue , and works with the Central Development team to forecast annual projections on a monthly basis. Reports regularly to Development and Finance leadership on progress towards goals. + Creates and ensures accuracy and efficacy of fundraising reports and dashboards for the Development team, Finance staff, Board of Trustee meetings, Executive Leadership Team, Deve lopment Committee, and others as requested. + Oversees tracking of performance metrics for development staff and works with manage rs to identify issues and create plans to meet goals. + Monitors and approves department purchases and expenditures. + Works with Finance staff on creation and monitoring of department budget and represents Development interests in Brookings-wide decisions on financial issues as appropriate. + Oversees prospect research budget. Human Resources Administration (20%) + Serves as primary point of contact and collaborative partner (HR liaison) with Brookings Central Human Resources Office and supervisors on matters such as recruitment, compensation , and performance management for Central Development. Ensure s supervisors ' understanding of and compliance with federal and local employment law and HR policies. + Oversee departmental recruitments and oversee Development Services staff assistant who coordinate s process and paperwork . Prepare job descriptions, screen resumes, interview candidates , and check references as necessary. Work with HR to ensure all institutional processes are followed correctly. + Enhance s workplace morale and culture for all Central Development staff at Brookings. + Monitors needs and provides ongoing support for staff related to training and development. Mentors and serves as a resource for staff. Qualifications Ready to make an impact? In this role, you will support Brookings values of collegiality, respect, inclusion, diversity and community, and bring the following qualifications: Education/Experience Requirements: Bachelor's degree required. Minimum six years of relevant experience in nonprofit fundraising. Demonstrated experience with financial analysis, preferably in a non-profit environment. Leadership and management experience to develop and oversee staff and to direct day-to-day activities and operations is required. Must be authorized to work for any employer in the US Knowledge/Skills Requirements: This position is a critical member of Brookings' Central Development senior staff. The successful candidate will be a team player who welcomes collaborative decision-making and who possesses an appreciation for the work of Brookings' scholars and the vital national policy questions their work addresses. Understanding of fundraising in a complex and dynamic organization required ; understanding of, and interest in, public policy desired. Demonstrated ability to handle confidentiality of sensitive issues and information. Superior communication skills; strong initiative and problem-solving skills. Attention to detail and the ability to operate with considerable independence to effectively establish priorities and work accurately under time constraints. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite with advanced proficiency in Excel; experience with Raiser's Edge or other relational database preferred. Must possess the ability to work with diverse stakeholder groups (both internal and external) and engender a respectful, welcoming and inclusive environment. Ability to accurately synthesize, analyze, and translate data for financial and activity reports. Excellent project management skills required including the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines and maintain disciplined adherence to department goals.
