Program Manager, Mason Exhibitions


The George Mason University, Mason Exhibitions within the College of Visual & Performing Arts (CVPA), seeks qualified applicants for a Program Manager. About the Position:

The Program Manager oversees the operation of a newly developed art space located at Virginia Square in Arlington, VA, featuring art exhibitions, video screenings, public events, and space rentals. The program is generated by Mason Exhibitions in collaboration with CVPA Schools and other academic or civic partners. The Manager's presence will often be required for evening and weekend events.

Responsibilities:

  • Represent the program's mission and generate positive visitor experience through event programs. Enact clear policies and procedures for event scheduling and coordination with Mason Exhibitions staff and CVPA faculty and staff;
  • Promote facility and services rental, develop sponsorship opportunities for local businesses/organizations, and manage the rental process in coordination with relevant University departments and support services;
  • Train, manage, and mentor graduate work-study students, interns, and volunteers. Supervise and assist with program set-up including seating and tables, A/V equipment, art installation, printed materials, and signage;
  • Assist in event scheduling, publicity and promotion through project descriptions, website updating, printed materials, social media, e-newsletter, and press releases. Assist with preparing material for grant applications to Arlington County, area foundations, and private donors, and sponsorship opportunities for businesses/organizations;
  • Manage routine financial transactions including space rentals, entry fees, donations, merchandise sales, as well as purchasing of budgeted equipment and supplies;
  • Participate with other staff and partners in gathering data for program assessments and provide input on future program development.


Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience with contemporary arts event management;
  • Experience with delivering professional public presentations, both live and written;
  • Familiarity with and commitment to anti-racist and inclusive programs, strategies, and practices;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Mac OSX, Adobe Creative Suite, web content and social media management, video conferencing, and budgeting software.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Organized, creative, proactive, flexible self-starter who can handle problems independently;
  • Experience working in the arts in academic institutions or other non-profit environments; community outreach and/or social change program experience;
  • Experience working with students, including responsible handling of confidential University information;
  • Familiarity with principals of graphic design and/or video editing.
