Accounts Payable Senior Fiscal Technician

The George Mason University, Office of Purchasing and Accounts Payable invites applications for a Senior Accounts Payable Fiscal Technician. About the Position:

This position will be responsible for processing various accounts payable transactions, including daily review of vendor invoices, employee expense reimbursements, and payment request vouchers.


  • Process vendor invoices and other types of payment requests. The review process will require validating invoice/expenses information, assigning expenditure object codes, obtaining department approval, and ensuring payment is compliant with the Commonwealth of Virginia policies and University procedures;
  • Manage AP mailboxes; ensure that all requests are reviewed on a timely and accurate basis;
  • Respond to internal and external clients' inquiries, preparing journal vouchers, researching invoice problems, pairing invoices to receiving reports, and completing vendor statement reconciliations monthly;
  • Process business expense and food and beverage reimbursements for Mason staff, faculty, and students in the Mason Financial Gateway;
  • Assist Mason departments and vendors regarding university and state policies and procedures;
  • Provide excellent customer services to both internal and external clients through e-mail and phone;
  • Perform special projects as requested by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Accounting or an equivalent combination of education and business experience;
  • Experience in employees' business expense reimbursement, invoice processing, or possess significant knowledge, experience, and abilities to perform the stated responsibilities successfully;
  • Detail-oriented and possess excellent analytical problem-solving skills;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word and Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient in Ellucian Banner financial system;
  • Work experience in a higher education environment.
