Responsibilities:


  • Provide the Board of Visitors and university executives with assurance and insight about the quality of Mason's governance, risk management, and control processes;
  • Perform and document risk-based internal audits to evaluate university governance, risk management, and control processes, including planning work, evaluating risks and controls, testing control effectiveness, and communicating audit results through verbal communications and written audit reports;
  • Monitor university business processes and activities to evaluate risks and identify potential risk responses and audit activities;
  • Identify potential university and audit department improvements; work projects to realize benefits;
  • Demonstrate excellent teamwork, collaboration, positive attitude, and high levels of ethics.


Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as Business Information Systems, Data Analytics, Accounting, Information Technology, Business or Finance, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience;
  • Demonstrated successful experience providing risk-based auditing and/or risk advisory services in a professional services firm, higher education, or corporate environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully audit business processes, programs and operations which often span organizational departments.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Knowledge of relevant auditing and risk management standards and principles, such as the Institute of Internal Auditors' Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing, NIST 800-53 Security and Privacy Controls Framework, and/or COBIT (Control Objectives for Information and Related Technology);
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability to audit large-scale and/or user-developed IT applications and environments, information security, and related control frameworks;
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to identify and assess risk and exposures across a wide variety of processes;
  • Superior skills in the areas of communication, relationship-building, collaboration, and problem-solving. Strong ability to communicate and collaborate with operational management and auditors, including IT and non-IT auditors;
  • Highest levels of integrity, strong initiative, flexible, and professionalism with a results-oriented work style;
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset with a strong customer-centric mindset;
  • Familiarity with data analytic tools, such as ACL, and with Ellucian Banner systems; * CIA, CPA, CISA, or the ability to obtain such certifications;
  • Ongoing continuing professional education so as to demonstrate professional currentness;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
