Volgenau School of Engineering Data Analytics Engineering Program Program Academic Advisor

The George Mason University, Data Analytics Engineering Program, within the Volgenau School of Engineering (VSE), seeks a proactive, organized and self-reliant professional for a Program Academic Advisor position. This is a full-time position at 40 hours a week. About the Position: This position includes a range of responsibilities to include timely academic advising to current, prospective, and transfer students on course selections for the M.S. in Data Analytics Engineering programs. This position creates and maintains advising reports for tracking, reviewing, and assessing student-advising sessions for accuracy and compliance. The applicant will need to become proficient in the applications used by Mason to include but not limited to Ellucian Banner (INB) and Micro Strategy.

Responsibilities: * Identify alternate equivalent courses on transfer course audit and resolve audit discrepancies; * Responsible for tracking student progress through the degree programs, which involves using tools such as Degree Works, as well as verifying prerequisites and tracking students in jeopardy of being terminated from the program; * Review and approval of student conferrals, intent to graduate, and graduation status reports to ensure program requirements are met; * Provide oversight regarding grading deadlines, procedures, policies, and final grade submissions in accordance with Mason policy; * Develop and maintain standard and detailed academic reports for the Program Director and Assistant Program Director; * Assist the Program Director in planning, developing, improving, implementing, and evaluating policies/procedures governing student admissions, orientation, and registration processes to include enrollment management and graduation activities; * Assist in the administrative processes of SACS accreditation by working in unison with the Program Director and Assistant Program Director to collect and enter required data to meet accreditation expectations; * Assist the Program Director and Assistant Program Director in achieving the programmatic long- and short-term goals and objectives by communicating, overseeing, performing, and offering effective administrative support to students and faculty in relation to these programs; * Responsible for coordinating and facilitating the orientation process to include maintaining records, as well as coordinating and facilitating student service administrative tasks to ensure quality and optimization in productivity; * Limited local travel, and some evening and weekend hours may be required with the work schedule subject to office needs.

Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in Education, Counseling, College Student Affairs, or academic field directly related to the position, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; * Excellent oral and written communication skills; * Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize accordingly; * Customer service attitude that projects a competent and positive image for the programs; * Self-motivated and have the ability to work independently; * Expertise in MS Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications: * Master's Degree in Education, Counseling, College Student Affairs, or an academic field directly related to the position, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; * Proficiency with Internet Native Banner, Micro Strategy, and web content management; * 1-3 years of graduate advising experience.
