Summary

This vacancy is for a Facility Operations Specialist position in the Administrative & Customer Services Division located at the U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters in Suitland, Maryland. The Census Bureau is accessible from the Metro Rail Green Line - Suitland Station.

This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Facility Operations Specialist, 1640-12, FPL 12 positions within the Census Bureau in the same geographical location with the same specialized experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary technical resource for facility operations, providing guidance and expertise with projects involving facilities infrastructure and equipment support, grounds, and utilities for the Census Bureau.
  • Coordinate maintenance and construction activities with Division Chiefs, GSA, and appointed staff.
  • Produce computer aided design drawings for space management and room layouts supporting request to the Administrative Customer Service Division (ACSD).
  • Manage funds to support the maintenance and repair program for Census Headquarters and Bowie Computer Center.
  • Perform audits to ensure compliance for facilities related to construction and repair projects and provide guidance and direction on environmental and safety issues arising from projects, and preventive maintenance programs.

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, and individual states being in different phases of reopening, once the selectee becomes an employee, the report date to the official duty station/facility may be delayed until such time that management notifies the employee of their requirement to report. Until it is safe to relocate, the employee may be approved to telework to the maximum extent possible, up to and including full-time.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: Managing the operations, and overall maintenance of facilities; providing guidance on facility and space management operations; overseeing construction projects; overseeing the budget for maintenance repairs, construction projects; and equipment; and identifying facility management operation problems to resolve issues.

Education: Education can not be substituted at this grade level.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
