Responsibilities

As a Financial Management Specialist, you will:
  • Serve as a key member of the Office's executive management team, leading assigned systems projects and providing input and recommendations on issues spanning the entire scope of program and functional activities.
  • Provide professional leadership and direction for a broad, spectrum of financial management activities that are critical to the mission of the Department. Serve as the program lead on key mission-related initiatives that cut across or are not readily associated with any single office within the financial management arena.
  • Provide policy analysis on a wide variety of financial management issues, and initiatives. Develop sources of information, identify and perform in-depth analyses of issues, analyze the consequences of adopting various proposals and policies, forecast developments potentially affecting the Department, develop options and alternatives, coordinate findings and recommendations with other affected parties, prepare and deliver written and oral presentations, and serve as an expert and authoritative representative of the office.
  • Perform a variety of duties to assist staff in developing new programs, policies, and initiatives. This includes working with appropriate HUD financial and program staff and policy officials responsible for developing and implementing HUD-related programs, as well as coordinating with officials at other Federal agencies where HUD efforts may leverage or be leveraged by those agencies in developing systems that complement HUD efforts.

  • Qualifications

    You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

    Specialized Experience: For the GS-15, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service.

    Specialized experience for this position includes experience as a technical resource for financial matters, involving development of financial policies and objectives and analysis and interpretation of financial management data and policies in order to make recommendations for improved operations and efficiency.

    Examples of such experience could include:
    • Serving as a financial management policy and technical consultant on financial matters and leading financial management data programs.; OR
    • Monitoring and ensuring the quality of data for an integrated financial management system including accounting, fund control, financial reporting, and control over the financial resources of an agency.; OR
    • Analyzing financial operations to identify trends, anomalies, or problems, and propose solutions, as well as isolating and defining unknown conditions to resolve critical problems to ensure the integrity of financial operations.

    Experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service . One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
