Summary

This position is located in the Health Care Services Directorate, Nursing Service Division, Nursing Inpatient Branch. The primary purpose of the position is to manage and direct all nursing care provided twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week (3 shifts) on a designated unit within Armed Force Retirement Home (AFRH).

Responsibilities

As a Supervisory Nurse, you will:
  • Assume the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability for maintaining compliance with Federal, state, and corporate guidelines in the operations of the Armed Force Retirement Home.
  • Assist in developing methods for coordinating nursing services with other nursing services to ensure the continuity of the Residents' total regimen of care.
  • Assist in the formulation of the annual budget for the designated unit. Insures supply and equipment systems are fully operational at a level necessary to support the unit.
  • Serve as a clinical role model to the nursing staff on assigned unit. Walking rounds are implemented daily to evaluate nursing actions for safety effectiveness and achievement of nursing goals.
  • In the absence of the Director, serve or participate in and attend various committees of the facility, (i.e., Infection Control, business meeting). Participate in the interdisciplinary care planning committee.

  • Qualifications

    You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

    Specialized experience for the GS-12 is defined as one year of experience at the GS-11 level, or equivalent that is directly related to the position and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

    Specialized experience is defined as:
      Supervising a clinical staff, including nursing personnel and support staff; AND Monitoring healthcare services to ensure quality care and accordance with medical and nursing guidelines and regulations.


    SPECIAL NOTE: Long-term care experience and/or interacting with geriatric patients is highly desired.

    RN- For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

    Candidates must possess a current CPR Certification and venipuncture experience and training.

    - Selectees will be subject to the AFRH Tuberculosis Surveillance Program.
    - Wear required safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc.
    - Because the AFRH's mission requires uninterrupted, direct human support and medical care for its Residents, this position is considered essential for continuing AFRH operations. Therefore, the incumbent is expected to arrive for duty on time, as scheduled, and to complete the assigned tour during emergency situations such as hazardous weather.
