This position is located in the Office of Information Technology at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities

-Leads the Security architecture, design, implementation and maintenance of the Museum's Network infrastructure and other communication initiatives.

-Oversees the development of technical data, estimates, statistics, suggestions, and other information useful to higher level managers in determining which goals and objectives to emphasize.

-Exercises delegated authority to oversee the overall planning, direction, and timely execution of the Museum Network security operations. Decides the methodologies to use in achieving work goals and objectives, and in determining other management strategies.

-Leads Museum's network design activities and maintains appropriate documentation.

-Serves as the Museum's primary expert on technical matters concerning network deployments and other communication technology.

-Prepares criteria and specifications for system modifications and testing of new equipment and services. Anticipates the probable implications that technological change will have for units and programs.

-Researches existing and emerging technologies to determine and directly implement appropriate methods of content delivery and presentation. Advises on technologies and systems.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT: To be eligible for the position, you must meet the Basic Requirement for the position of IT Specialist. Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Specialized Experience for GS-14: You must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the federal service that clearly demonstrates knowledge, skills and abilities

· Managing an organizations network infrastructure security including administration, design, and architecture;

· Developing and revising policies and procedures for an organization's networking solutions; and

· Conducting extensive research of new vulnerabilities and insecurities discovered in network operating systems, infrastructure and boundary protection devices.

The scored occupational questionnaire will evaluate you on the following competencies; please do not provide a separate written response:

-Applying network systems design and management methods including end-to-end performance monitoring, network architecture, Cisco networking, and related technologies in order to plan, design, develop, and enhance highly efficient network systems that respond to the Museum's business requirements.

-Experience with IT systems security principles, concepts and methods, including state-of-the-art and emerging techniques and products, in order to utilize appropriate technical strategies to resolve complex and persistent IT security challenges.

-Knowledge of all phases of data center and server implementations and various server and workstation operating systems, specifically Microsoft, UNIX, Linux, and related technologies in order to ensure adequate network services throughout the Museum.

-Experience in planning and project management in order to manage new deployments and/or upgrade technology.

-Knowledge of data and communication technologies, server, workstation, and network hardware systems, in order to architect networks and associated components.
