The Media and Content Strategist's primary objective is to provide services and deliverables through the performance of a Media and Content Strategist to USAID's COVID-19 Task Force.

The mission of USAID is to accelerate human progress in developing countries by reducing poverty, advancing democracy, building market economies, promoting security, responding to crises, and improving quality of life. Working with governments, institutions, and civil society, the Agency assists individuals with building their own futures by mobilizing the full range of America's public and privacy resources through its expert presence overseas.

The Media and Content Strategist will be housed in the Task Force Readiness Unit (TFRU) within USAID's Bureau for Management (M Bureau). The TFRU is the new entity in M Bureau.

  • Provide support to the Pillar Lead of Pillar II, Coordination and Communications of USAID's COVID-19 Task Force, reporting to and taking day-to-day technical direction from the Pillar II Lead.
  • Manage as applicable, logistics, staffing, and communications when the administrator activates a Task Force, works with applicable Bureaus and Independent Offices (B/IOs) to activate/deactivate a Task Force, and works with the Executive Director of the Task Force and other members to formulate its objectives and processes within the Agency and within the interagency as appl
  • Responsible for coordinating the establishment of Task Forces within USAID. The Support USAID's COVID-19 Task Force.
  • Provide support services to contribute to the mission of the U. S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
  • Maintain regular contact with USAID Front Office and Agency bureaus/independent offices to obtain briefing materials, background documents, and other related materials.
  • Identify and develop story ideas based on USAID COVID-19 response and develop original content for distribution across USAID (and potentially other USG) COVID-19-related communication platforms.
  • In close coordination with the Senior Advisor for Strategic Communication and in line with COVID-19 TF Comms strategy, work with relevant USAID Missions on the development of content specific to relevant stakeholder/media markets.
  • Coordinate with key implementing partners or other partners in COVID-19 response from outside of USG (ie, NGOs and private sector stakeholders) to identify and convey messages and stories about partnerships in support of COVID-19 response.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Master's degree in communications, international relations, or a related field and 10+ years of experience OR
  • Bachelor's degree and 15+ years of specialized experience
  • This position requires a mastery of communication principles, methods, practices, and techniques.
  • This position requires analytical methods experience and interpersonal relationship practices, to develop policies present and/or explain significant issues to generally responsive groups or individuals interested in the agency's programs
  • Background check required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to obtain a secret clearance (the candidate will be able to start working with a USAID facilities access and background check)
  • Ability to communicate with all levels across the Agency to inform customers and coworkers of issues for resolution.
  • Expert writing skills to clearly present decision points for leadership, prepare formal responses to requests for information, and provide advice, information, and guidance to functional personnel in a thorough and professional manner.
  • Experience in storytelling and content creation and U.S. and international media desirable though not required.
  • Ability to use standard computer applications, like Microsoft Office Suite and Google apps.
  • Ability to work effectively both individually and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work within tight deadlines.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and use time effectively.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
