Description:

General Summary:

Under moderate supervision, the Central Services Technician I is responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of supplies and equipment dispensed by the department following established infection control practices. Able to accept new ideas and will assist in implementing them in the department. Actively engages in the department's performance improvement activities.

A Level 1 CSP technician is certified in sterile processing. They will maintain their IAHCSMM or CBSPD certification in accordance with departmental policy and will maintain their personal productivity at an average of 95% or greater. A Level 1 CSP technician accepts additional assignments related to support functions as is needed to provide service excellence to patients, visitors, and hospital staff.

SHIFT: Monday - Friday with rotating weekends. 3pm - 11:30pm

Minimum Licensure/Certification Required (if applicable):

High School Diploma required.
Certification Required - (IAHCSMM) International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management OR (CBSPD) Certification Board Sterile Processing Distribution

Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend English. Basic computer skills needed. Must have knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to perform simple math. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

Working Conditions:

Physical Requirements: Medium work. Lifting over twenty-five (25) pounds of instrument trays, equipment and supplies. Pushing and pulling of carts. Reaching, handling and fingering of instruments and supplies.

Visual Acuity: Near visual acuity for accurate reading of tray lists, instrument inspection, pressure gauges, recording charts and graphs, package inspection and expiration dating labels, and color vision to detect signal lights, biological monitor color changes and instrument set coding.

Environmental Conditions: The worker is required to function inside a clean, well-lighted environment. May be exposed to frequent interruptions and multiple crisis situations. Expected to work on rotating shifts including weekends and holidays as necessary. Potential for regular exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials, requiring the observation of Standard (Universal) Precautions and safe handling practices. Possible exposure to toxic chemicals, gas fumes, and infectious material. Standing and walking most of the time on duty. Talking and hearing to converse with Staff Members and requesting personnel. Hearing to differentiate sounds of various equipment alarms. Near visual acuity for accurate reading of tray lists, instrument inspection, pressure gauges, recording charts and graphs, package inspection and expiration dating labels, and color vision to detect signal lights, biological monitor color changes and instrument set coding. This position has been classified as low or no exposure risk and does not require the completion of an annual testing, but may require "just in time" testing if the need arises.

Reporting Relationship:

Reports to Shift Supervisor, Central Sterile Processing, Additional collateral responsibility to the Charge and lead Nurse in all clinical areas, in the spirit of Just culture and service Excellence being fully engaged and connected is essential.
