Position Information
The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is seeking a Senior Travel Program Assistant to support the DPR 55+ Programs. The 55+ Programs provides recreation, education, social, wellness, and volunteer opportunities for Arlington's 55+ population. The employee will provide planning support to the Travel Program Supervisor by identifying and assessing local travel and virtual programming needs for 55+ participants for local or regional events, including participants with special needs. This person serves as the main point of contact for participants.

Specific duties:

  • Researching, implementing and planning of day trips and virtual programs, including special projects and plan of action for returns;
  • Providing an analysis of travel program to include number of trips/virtual programs, attendance, evaluation and customer feedback, revenue as well as recommendations and programs adjustments;
  • Coordinating with marketing to promote programs, benchmark and research other jurisdictions for virtual, and update travel manual with new protocols;
  • Coordinating and follow-up with presenters about program confirmation, and other details associated with day trips and virtual programs;
  • Corresponding with 55+ participants (confirm trips, email Zoom links, notify of changes and/or cancellations);
  • Serving a host to assist virtual programmers and volunteer travel leaders and create Zoom links for all virtual programs;
  • Maintaining Rec Trac virtual rosters with participant and program information in TEAMS;
  • Assisting with the recruitment, training, and evaluation of volunteers
  • Responding to senior's requests for trips though phone, in person and Travel hotline, including daily monitoring and updating travel hot line; and
  • Attending Travel Advisory Committee (TAC) and assist TS in gathering information from the TAC

Selection Criteria
Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation Administration, Gerontology/Aging Studies, Business Management or related field; and
  • One (1) year of experience (equivalent of 4 seasons) administering or providing support to recreational programs.

Substitution: Additional qualifying experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Working in travel or events planning;
  • Accounts payable, billing, or bookkeeping;
  • Working with senior citizens;
  • Data entry or data management;
  • Writing content for promotional materials; and
  • Microsoft Office 365 and/or SharePoint.

Special Requirements
