Job Description

Zeus Technology ( https://www.zeustechnology.com ) is a fast-growing component of The Washington Post which helps publishers optimize their digital advertising. We aim to level the playing field for publishers, as they compete for ad dollars with social and search giants, by using the same technology and strategies as The Washington Post. For example, Zeus Performance is the next generation ad framework for rendering highly performant ads. Originally built for the Washington Post, we are now offering Zeus Performance to other publishers to speed up advertising technology on their sites, with over 100 sites launched in the first year serving over 3.8 billion ad impressions per month.

We are currently looking for a highly motivated Senior Technical Architect that can succeed in a fast-paced startup like environment.

Responsibilities
  • Shape and organize the ongoing conversations around Zeus technology with advertiser stakeholders, product, sales and client support teams.
  • Understand customer business requirements and translate them into well-designed architectures and implementation plans.
  • Architect, build and manage proof of concepts and systems to support Zeus engineering team.
  • Report back on progress to stakeholders at the highest level of the company.
  • Lead others in technical research pertaining to existing or emerging trends in technology while applying knowledge gained about that technology.
  • Identify gaps and help us fill them with additional engineers as necessary.
  • Comfortable guiding thinking in the development, documentation and presentation of technical strategy and tactical planning to implement strategy.
  • Share ideas and experiences, ask questions, and strive to remove ambiguity for both oneself and one's team members.
  • Eagerness to evolve and grow personal skill set by learning new software languages, tools and applications.
  • Contribute to the knowledge growth of the Zeus engineering team via documentation and knowledge sharing.
  • Lead knowledge growth of the Zeus engineering team via documentation, knowledge sharing and mentoring.


Minimum Qualifications
  • BA/BS in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10+ years' experience high level individual contribution and software architecture experience.
  • 5+ years hands on experience of technical/system architect experience in an IT environment in systems integration, systems analysis and design, and object-oriented development.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into high-level designs and communicate the designs to technical and non-technical users.
  • Experience architecting solutions that are implemented by internal and external engineering teams.
  • Deep understanding of AWS products.
  • Experience programming in Python, Spark, JavaScript/Node and Java
  • Experience interacting with client executive and engineering staff.
  • Experience in documenting (e.g. blogs, articles, whitepapers) implementation patterns and results for re-use.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications
  • MS in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • Long term vision of architectural design & Big Data technology.
  • Experience with multiple database technologies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of system scaling and caching.
  • Experience using monitoring tools to find application deficiencies.
  • Experience designing CI/CD pipelines
  • Knowledge of REST, Service Oriented Architecture, OAuth, Basic Authentication and PCI.
