Inspects, repairs, installs, modifies, and maintains plumbing fixtures in heating, water and drainage systems. Identifies electrical, plumbing and safety problems applicable to the installation and takes necessary corrective action; Performs routine to extensive preventive maintenance on plumbing and mechanical systems throughout the hospital facilities and associated Regional Outpatient Clinics as directed, Including kitchen equipment and fire system. Will cross train with other positions to provide coverage on an emergency basis. Responds to all hospital emergencies including but not limited to leaks, odors and fire alarms. Must have a valid drivers license and the ability to operate hospital vehicles. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands or fingers to handle or feel, reach with hands and or arms and to talk and hear. The employee is required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. The employee must lift and or move up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED Journeyman's license or related technical training in specialized kitchen equipment or fire systems is required Valid drivers license to operate hospital vehicles (Required)

Required Licenses and Certifications
Journeyman's license or related technical training in specialized kitchen equipment or fire systems is required (Required)Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) (Required)

Minimum Work Experience
7 years Related experience including apprenticeship in related field. Ability to lift > 50
Required Skills/Knowledge
Basic Algebra.
Knows how to work a PC, XP Operating System and the following standard equipment - calculator, copy machine, and Fax machine.
Ability to use supply order system.
Ability to use work order system.
Ability to use email system.
Basic to advanced knowledge of sprinkler systems.
Frequently bend, stoop, sit, stand/walk and reach. Lift, carry push, pull 40 - 75 lbs during shift.

Functional Accountabilities
Corrective and Preventive Maintenance

  • Diagnose and resolve general to extensive mechanical /plumbing problems.


  • Perform corrective maintenance on equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Perform preventive maintenance of plumbing system in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Troubleshoot plumbing, kitchen and fire system equipment and systems to determine functional and structural problems.
  • Maintain corrective tickets. PM cards, project sheets and status board up-to-date.
  • Maintain materials and tools needed to perform the role, ensure all purchase orders and reports are accurate, complete and submitted in a timely manner; use and maintain hard and power tools as well as precision measuring and test instruments.

Compliance

  • Responsible for ensuring that all kitchen, plumbing and fire system repairs are completed within codes by the governing body having jurisdiction.


  • Establish and ensure compliance with work schedules.
  • Comply with all safety regulations to include but not limited to hospital regulations, OSHA and other applicable guidelines.
  • Act as a member of the internal engineering emergency response team.

Reads Blueprints Estimates Materials

  • Study blueprints and diagrams to ascertain layout, location and specifications of items to be installed.


  • Estimate quantities of materials needed and prepare requisitions.
  • Assemble, install and connect component unit controls.
  • Mount motors, transformers, lighting fixtures, or other equipment into position and complete circuits, according to diagram specifications.

Quality Assurance

  • Take the initiative to identify and report deficiencies in the physical plant of the hospital.


  • Diagnose and resolve trouble ticket/work orders thoroughly until completed.
  • When necessary, routinely follows up with manager to communicate or request assistance in order to complete work orders.
  • Follow-up with requestor after completion of a work order to ensure problem has been corrected.
  • Routinely utilize all safety measures as related to work orders and specific task.
