The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is seeking CCTV Engineer II for the Office of Engineering and Architecture (ENGA). The successful candidate for this role will be part of the Communications and Network Systems team, which designs various systems such as Fire Alarm, Tunnel Smoke Detection, Access Control, Intrusion Detection, CCTV, Gas Detection, Intercom, and Public Address for WMATA.

This is a highly responsible engineering work of a complex nature. The candidate will play a pivotal role in providing designs of the CCTV system, ensuring traceability to design practices through value engineering, implementation, and operation of these systems. There will also be emphasis on system integration. The ideal candidate shall be a self-starter, possess strong communication skills, and be result- focused, knowledge of computer aided design programs. Prior experience in rail and transit is preferred, but not required.

In this versatile role, you will bring your passion, experience, and expertise CCTV system architectures and implementations to deliver new and modifications of these systems to updates of WMATA facilities. This to ensure system compliance with current requirements and standards, drives innovations, and sustainability to increase system reliability performance. You will be part an energetic team of Engineers, including consultants and will be working in a collaborative environment that values diverse perspective and continuous learning within the team and across WMATA departments.

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) operate rail, bus, and paratransit services in 1,500-square mile area that includes the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field. Minimum six (6) years of progressive, relevant engineer experience as described below (including experience as an Engineer I) OR the equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training demonstrating the following skills:

• Understanding and applying engineering theories, standards, concepts, resources and techniques;

• Working on routine projects independently and/or working with teams on larger projects;

• Collecting and analyzing non-routine data;

• Working closely with other groups within and/or outside the Authority;

• Identifying and analyzing job/project-related issues and problems;

• Keeping abreast of new equipment, methods and developments in engineering.

Experience in lieu of education will be considered if candidate can effectively demonstrate knowledge of commonly-used standard principles, theories, standards, concepts and techniques within the field of Engineering.

License:

Successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.

Possession of, or ability to acquire, a District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia motor vehicle operator's license issued from jurisdiction of residence.

Medical Group :

Satisfactorily complete the medical examination for this position, if required. The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of this particular position either with or without reasonable accommodation(s).

Job Summary/Duties:

This is a responsible professional engineering work of a difficult and complex nature. Employee in this class is responsible for all facets of design and construction, including preparation of contract documents, specifications, and contractor submittals for compliance with design criteria and contractual, engineering, and jurisdictional requirements. Employee has extensive latitude for independent judgment and action within general guidelines provided by the employee's supervisor.

Performs engineering design for special projects to include preliminary design calculations, development of engineering plans, systems, cost estimates, schedules, and drawings.

Coordinates and reviews contractor submitted shop drawings, catalog cuts, samples, and specifications of facilities and systems.

Reviews final design plans and specifications for engineering concepts with emphasis on safety, constructability, and state-of-the-art.

Serves as leader of interdisciplinary engineering group formed to deal with special construction or engineering problems.

Engineers assigned to a discipline Deputy Chief provide engineering technical direction to Construction Engineers and field personnel when problems arises requiring deviations from contract drawings, specifications or standard practices.

Coordinates with other disciplines and offices of the Authority to ensure in-house design meets the project requirements.

Maintains continuous overview of the facilities and systems installed by contractors to ensure safety and maintainability of equipment and to minimize differences in operations and maintenance procedures. Attempts to resolve actual and potential problems that may develop.

Acts as liaison between utility companies and the applicable Deputy Chief.

Prepares responses for design review comments and Request For information.

Prepares or reviews feasibility studies, special reports, and investigation reports on problems.

Prepares cost estimates and schedules as required.

Stays abreast of state-of-the-art new developments in the assigned engineering discipline. Conducts periodic field visits to determine work status, provide technical advice and/or to review progress.

Participates in Substantial Completion Inspections and other field inspections or investigations relative to assigned projects.
