Senior Editor (News Commentary)

Communications

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a global network of foreign policy research centers in Russia, China, Europe, the Middle East, India, and the United States, is seeking an experienced Senior Editor to join its communications team in Washington, DC.

The Senior Editor will frame, solicit, and edit all of our news-driven commentary, ranging from short reaction pieces to magazine-length articles. This is an opportunity to deliver timely analysis with a global impact, reflecting the expertise of Carnegie’s authors across the full spectrum of political and economic issues and foreign policy. The Senior Editor must ensure clarity and readability in published pieces and possess a strong sense of news judgment. Significant knowledge of and interest in international affairs is essential, as is the ability to identify important but under-discussed issues and craft pitches to our authors.

The successful candidate will be a highly accomplished editor with four to six years of experience in substantive and structural editing, copy editing, and proofreading in a newsroom or magazine setting. They must have the poise and authority to work with busy policy experts and the sensitivity to manage individual writing styles. The role requires working closely with the entire communications team while independently prioritizing and advancing multiple projects at once. Excellent attention to detail and outstanding interpersonal skills are essential.

Located in Dupont Circle, we offer an outstanding work environment and generous benefits. Please apply via the Carnegie Endowment website. https://carnegieendowment.applicantpro.com/jobs/1956749.html

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other protected group.
