The Fairfax County Streetlight Engineering Team of Capital Facilities (CAP) of the Department of Public Work and Environmental Services (DPWES) is seeking an individual to meet the description below. As a member of the streetlight engineering team, provides streetlight review of development plans, administration, coordination, and implementation of the Capital Facilities portion of the Fairfax County Streetlight Program to include: serving as a point of contact for daily coordination with Land Development Services (LDS), developers, and electric utility companies on the installation of streetlights. Participates in the reviews and preparation of streetlight designs to ensure most cost-effective layout is provided with Board approved criteria, Fairfax County Public Facilities Manual (PFM) regulations, and standards and engineering practices utilizes the Streetlights GIS layer using ArcGIS to edit and view data. Maintains and updates streetlight computer information to track encumbrances, expenditures, payments and to provide current project status. Prepares correspondence, addresses citizen issues and concerns. Conducts field work as necessary to coordinate development streetlight projects with utility companies and to verify plan information. Assists the Senior Engineer on other administration duties and performs other duties as assigned. Learn more about CAP.

NOTE: This position may not exceed 1,560 hours per calendar year. Individuals in these positions are eligible for limited employee benefits, including medical, vision and dental insurance coverage, and participation in flexible spending programs, but are not eligible to earn leave or receive holiday pay.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to high school graduation or a GED issued by a state department of education; plus, four years of engineering technical support work.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid driver's license.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or religious reasons will still be subject to the weekly testing requirement. Otherwise, vaccinated employees will complete the attestation online in the first day of employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Outstanding oral and written communications skills. Experience in the engineering design to provide lighting of roadways (streetlights), pedestrian walkways and parking facilities. Experience in the use of ArcGIS.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to work at computer with visual acuity for extended periods is required. Ability to drive a motor vehicle. Occasional field survey will be necessary. Must be able to walk over rough terrain, lift and carry 50 pounds, work in variable climate, and stand for prolonged periods. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
