Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking an experienced video graphics animator for a six-month contract. The successful candidate must have experience designing and developing story elements using mixed-media and 2-D/3-D animation techniques. Video graphics animators support day-to-day production and are expected to pitch, develop and execute graphics-driven narratives. They also work with editors and reporters to bring difficult-to-explain stories to life.

Applicants should have a mastery of relevant Adobe Creative Cloud software (After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro), and exceptional design and typography skills. The graphics animator is responsible for taking various media and creating engaging motion graphics.

The ideal candidate must have at least three years of experience producing animation for news projects, strong news judgment, a passion for visual art, excellent communication skills and writing skills, and a record of producing compelling animated content.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.

Because this is a contract position, we will consider candidates who are remote.

Candidates should upload a résumé, cover letter and links to recent work to our jobs portal by Sept 14. All application materials can be uploaded to the same field. The cover letter should be addressed to Video Creative Director Osman Malik, Director of Video Micah Gelman, and Managing Editors Tracy Grant and Krissah Thompson.
