The Associate Director reports to the director, Editorial & Development Strategy, Marketing and Communications. This member of Children's National Hospital Foundation's writing team plays a key a role in the engagement of prospects and donors through strategic messaging, storytelling and positioning of significant fundraising solicitations. The associate director researches, develops, writes and manages the production of major gift proposals, stewardship reports, cases for support, presentations, talking points, media releases, ads and other high-impact philanthropic and marketing communications. This work requires regular collaboration with hospital and Foundation leadership, physicians, scientists, gift officers, creative and digital communications teams and others. The associate director is an experienced writer who takes initiative, works independently, thinks creatively and is focused on details and compelling content to deliver the highest quality projects.


Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree (Required)

Minimum Work Experience
5 years Experience writing in a professional setting (Required) And
1 year Experience in development (fundraising, donor relations) (Required)

Experience in a healthcare setting preferred

  • Partner with faculty and Foundation staff to produce high quality donor-facing products
  • Serve as collaborative and active member of the Editorial & Development Strategy team to write, edit and produce Marketing and Communications projects
  • Serve as a collaborative resource to support writing functions across the Foundation
  • Engage in high-level research to prepare accurate and compelling proposals, reports and other products
  • Assist with communications for cultivation and stewardship events and other Foundation functions
  • Use measurement, recording and project management systems at the Foundation to ensure clear, accurate reporting of solicitation and stewardship activities
Customer Service
  • Provide a high level of service to internal and external constituent groups including: donors, board members, hospital leadership, faculty and vendors.
Quality Assurance
  • Ensure that messaging, funding requests and stewardship reports are prepared at the highest level of accuracy, quality and attentiveness to donor's interests, wishes and needs.
  • Actively manage portfolio of projects, deliver finished work in a timely and high quality manner.
  • Work carefully to produce highly accurate work products
